I th98ink you are pretty much SOL on that. You can turn off some of it by going into
Settings>Map and Vehicle>Map Layers and turn off Places Along the Road. But as far as the Icons for your Favorites, there is no way to turn them off.

You can view upcoming services along your route or the road on which your traveling. These is a Garmin thing not my poi's. These are all selectable on my other nuvi's. I'm quite sure it was all or none. Can't even get rid of some in this one. What your suggesting doesn't work because you must have three and any three you choose does not stop burger king for example from showing up on the map up ahead.

Go to Settings, like I said, and in Map Layers TURN OFF PLACES ALONG THE ROAD. These have nothing to do with the Upcoming Services in the Tools Pop Up.

None of it. Been there done that. Nothing i do changes anything. What i haven't done is turn off my poi's but i don't have repair services as a poi and they show up. I'm either not explaining what i want done correctly or maybe we can't change this. I don't have restaurants in the up ahead places, which is un ticked but there they are on the screen. If you go 1 step further in map layers you customize it you have to choose 3, so i have rest areas gas stations and History which i don't subscribe to. But having said that its un ticked so nothing should come up.

When you click the bottom right corner of the map and bring up the tools menu, and choose UpAhed, those items are not showing as icons on the Map. In Fact, you can go to
Settings>Map and Vehicles>Map Tools and uncheck Up Ahead there. That will be removed from your Tool Menu on the map,

Tools, Up Ahead is not the same as Settings>Map and Vehicles>Map Layers. Go there and turn off PLACES ALONG THE ROAD. These are not the same as UP Ahead. In Places up the road, you cannot turn individual categories off.

So go remove the UP AHEAD layer off in Map Tools, and Places Up THE Road Off. This will get rid of all the icons except for any POIs you have.

You wil have to download your Favorites into BaseCamp and hand the icon for every Favorite to turn off the Big Icons for your Favorites.

You cannot turn on or off POI on the unit. You would have to remove them fro the unit to turn off the icons.

Who's dumb idea was that? You were absolutely right it was my poi's all along. I didn't want to believe it, for one i don't know how the repair icon got on the screen because i don't have any repair stuff in my poi's but i removed my poi's and i have a clean screen. I say again what a dumb idea. I hate clutter. Never on any of my units did i have this nonsense to contend with. Can't even tick them off temporarily like i can with 3790.

That sucks, installed basecamp 471 and lost access to my Garmin.
Uninstalled it and access is back.
