Garmin new map download error

Hello all,
I am really seeking an help right now. I have a Garmin GPS device. It originally has europe map installed in it. However, I want to add US map as i moved here. I bought it online but it's not getting installed and giving an error "unable to install this content". Kindly advise me for this

Well

It would help with more information. Which device? How are you trying to get the US map?

Normally if you move to the US it's simpler to buy a new device there.

map medium

Dis you bought it from Garmin or some other source? Was is download from Garmin website or SD card? Maps are generally assigned to device they were activated on only. Exception is map on SD card, which is bound to card, but can't be updated.

Official poop from Garmin

When purchasing or receiving a free map update, unless otherwise stated, the updates you receive under the subscription will update the same geographic area included with your Garmin product when originally purchased. In that case, some of the regions below may not be available since they include states, provinces, and/or areas that were not originally pre-loaded to your device.

Why we should all do as sussamb says

Since the OP says s/he's just moved to North America, in addition to the above-linked purchase of North America or partial NA map purchase, I expect lifetime updates are also desired to keep the map current. If even available anymore, Lifetime Updates adds another US$75-100. That's why sussamb's suggestion of buying a new North American-mapped Garmin GPS with lifetime updates is the way to go rather than try to convert a European-mapped GPS. A new Drive-series GPS can be cheaper than converting a Europe-mapped device...and much cheaper if you're willing to buy a used or refurbed Garmin Drive or even late-model nuvi.

Totally

agree a new GPS would be the better option. I just posted that for information purposes.

I agree, buying a GPS seems a better route

Amazon sells some good used ones for around $100. As cheap as $50 from established ebay vendors.

Reconditioned

I bought a reconditioned Garmin GPS from Walmart for reasonable cost.
