Garmin 2020.1 vs. Microsoft S&T 2013

Well this is ridiculous.
I have an ancient Microsoft Streets & Trips 2013 and it can lay out a cross country route here in southern Jalisco, Mexico for a motorcycle trip we are planning. Finds all connecting roads from start to finish using waypoints I created. A total of about 200km. Now of course neither MapSource nor BaseCamp can read the S&T 2013 file. I found GPS Utility searching POIfactory which let me convert to a csv file and EPE editor converted it to gpx.
Neither MapSource nor BaseCamp can do this route. They just cannot find connecting roads and set up a totally unrealistic route leaving a huge gap between two waypoint and have me going to one wayoint, then then double back to the starting point, pass it and go to the waypoint it cannot connect to at the other end and then from there double back to the starting point. It took me about 20 minutes to do the route in S&T 2013 and after 2 hours monkeying around MapSource and BaseCamp I gave up. Unfortunately I cannot lug my laptop along on a motorcycle.
Using Garmin makes it a 400km (250mile) doubling back and forth trip instead of a 200km (125mile) round trip.
This is the first time I actually have to say GARMIN sucks big time !!!!!

Here are a couple of thoughts. In BaseCamp, go to Preferences>Routing. Check Shortest and uncheck all the avoidances. Then you can experiment with the modes of transportation until you can find one that will go where you want. Also try Curvy Roads. You never know.
You may even have to try hiking or mountaineering. There's a lot of customizable choices in there.

Also ...
What map are you using in Mapsource/BaseCamp? The programs are good but without the correct maps they will struggle as they can't route along roads/tracks not on the maps.

Where the ancient 2013 S&T will actually show a road, dirt road connecting the dots the current Garmin map just shows empty fields with no roads at all!
We've printed the S&T map in a few sections to take along tomorrow.
