Thanks

I think you're confused on this retirement thing. You're supposed to do winters in AZ and summers in states with freezing temps!

Even worse for today's tasks, there's no mail delivery statewide so all of us waiting for a Netflix disk or two will have to wait. Tomorrow's supposed to be even worse so the disk mailed Monday may arrive on Friday if I'm lucky. Thank goodness I have multiple GPS devices to update. At least it's sunny today. cool

That's why I save at least 6

That's why I save at least 6 good movies on the cable DVR so we can watch something when the library DVDs supply that I stocked up on yesterday runs out.

Today is -4 and windy, tomorrow will be the bottom of the temps and then rising up for the weekend.

Well, this was a surprise

Wasn't expecting an update this early. Updated the 350, 3590, and 3597. No problems with updating. The 3597 was connected and I left the house for a couple of hours. Got back and it was done. Next, the 350 was done. Took about 45 minutes for it and the 3590 was done in about 25 minutes. Guess I'll have to take one of them out and see what has changed. One thing I hoped would be added was a new interstate exchange on I-71. No luck, even though Waze has it.

I think Garmin is messing

I think Garmin is messing with us. The last update, 2019.30 was much later than expected and now this 2020.10 update appears much earlier than expected. shock

And for some reason Garmin skipped over 2019.40 map update

Thanks sussamb

While a lot of you are freezing, I am not. Today should be around 88°, sunny and not a cloud in the sky.
It'll be interesting to see how long it'll take me to update two Garmins here in Mexico.

I, as well as many other people I know actually save money by not living up north in the winter.
I agree though, anywhere south in the USA is way too expensive!
As an example I pay just over $ 1.00 to have a nice cold beer served to me at a beach restaurant !
Last night I had some great chicken fajitas and 2 beers for just over $ 10.00. Cheaper than McDonalds and a way better food.

Sorry to have gone off track!

Thanks sussamb for the heads up.

Updated GE to 6.11.1.0 with no problem. Yes -- had to do the normal Settings>General and uncheck "Always keep Garmin Express running in the background" change.

On a Windows system check "My Documents Garmin" there may be a bunch of backup files that are a waste of space.

So according to this thread

So according to this thread (http://www.poi-factory.com/node/42417) it looks like it's been a few years since there were 4 updates/yr. Lately just 3. Perhaps in the coming years it'll be 2, then eventually once a year.

I update once a year anyways. Too much of a hassle to update several units and multiple laptops. Not to mention little change in the area.

.

I found it out just now by chance!

Everything all up to (Garmin) date now. All except the Zumo 550 went fine. The 550 still gives me an error message and the main unit is stuck on 2018.20, had to download entire 2020.10 map to the SD card.

On a Windows system check "My Documents Garmin" there may be a bunch of backup files that are a waste of space.

Not sure what files get stored in Documents\Garmin on Windows. On my end (using Windows 10) there is only a subfolder called "Custom Waypoint Symbols" in that Garmin folder. No other files/folders in that Garmin folder. That "Custom Waypoint Symbols" subfolder only contains 7 small BMP graphic/image files.

I assume the Garmin folder is used to store saved content from BaseCamp, Mapsource, MapInstall, or similar Garmin programs as that Garmin folder is indicating a creation date of 5/10/2012.
