Saving a link of 2 destinations in series

Once a month or so we do a shopping trip... to an Aldi, a Sam's Club, and usually a Book Store for wife....
Was wondering.... What I do now is: after arriving at first destination, call up a new one, and then a second one, making it be a "VIA" instead of destination....

Is there a way of Saving a link of 2 destinations in series? Or more?
Or do I have to do it as I do it now... Save two destinations, and then calling up one, then a second calling it a "VIA"....

Just nosy...

Trip Planner

If your GPSr supports Trip Planner, you could create a trip with your waypoints in Basecamp using the Trip Planner option and download it to your unit.

Or ..

Just create the trip on your nuvi if it has a trip planner app

Saving

On newer Garmins they call it " Trip planner " , on the older Garmins its "Routes " unless I'm wrong.

Depends ..

If you are talking about your nuvi 2689, then the previous posts are correct. If you are referring to your old nuvi 660, it doesn't have route planner or trip planner for saved multi point routes. I believe the old 660 did support one via point on the active route, but AFAIK, there is no way to store and recall a saved route.

Thanks...

This is useful information.

Via and route.

Don't forget the old trick for models that only have option of one via point. Go to Where to, and put in the last location you want to arrive at. Hit go, then stop the route.Repeat each location working backwards and until you have all the stops in. Now go back to Where to and then recent. Under recent you will see all the locations you added with the first stop at the top. Now just select location as needed.

I do this a lot when travelling. My unit has the route option. But I still build up some locations in recent that I may want to detour off my route and go to.

I had that figured out long ago

As charles45 explained, long ago before I knew about POIfactory, that's what I used to do with a Nuvi 350, which had no routing capability.

My primary method--recently used

I use your "populate recent" method before most trips. To my taste, grabbing my next destination out of recent works better than building and using routes in nearly all cases (not all...). That has held true across my last three units (855, 3790, 3597).

Another way

When I was using the Nuvi 50 (not route capable) on a cross county trip a couple of years ago I put all the stops I was going to make in a seperate GPX file (most were culled from the Current.GPX) into a file called TRIP.GPX using POIeditor to strip out the unwanted locations.

If I wanted to add other stops that were not in the CURRENT file I used MapSource or BaseCamp (Ugh) to get them as waypoints and add them to the TRIP file.

Then I used POIloader to create a GPI file called TRIP.

That way I could access it from the Extras/Custom POIs screen and the closest locations will always be at the top of the list.

Thank you for your posts....

Thank you for your posts.... Yes, it's the 2689 that I'm talking about...
Prior to reading your posts, I blindly stumbled through route without getting very far....
I'm gonna have to look for video on it...

The shopping trips are separated enough that pulling trips via recent won't be as easy to find....

What I have been doing is: I enter the first location to go to... and when we get there, enter the last, and then the middle one as a Via....
The problem with doing that is... I sometimes get the last two reversed, and that causes more traffic delay as we criss-cross our routes do to the mis routing...
I'd like to save 3 or 4 locations in 2 files, that are per-determined to be as efficient in milage and gas use as possible..

There was reference to mapping software to create file to download... Don't have that... Do have Smart Link on iPhone, but, I've also had issues with Smart Link fighting the hands free software in Ford Escape--disconnecting phone. Doesn't do the disconnect every time, but often enough to be irritating... This is even after an Update of Sync Software in the 2011 Escape----- So because of the phone disconnects with Garmin Smart Link, I haven't experimented much with Smart Link....

That's why I was hoping to save multiple destinations as one with the 2689...

Well ...

You can using the trip planner app on your nuvi. Just enter the first location etc then save it as a trip, eg shopping route one. You can then call it up any time you want.

Well ...

Those nuvis have trip planner app. You should see it when you hit Where to ... may need to scroll down to see it? Or tap the Apps icon. See page 13 of the user manual
