Current street identification on Nuvi?

This may be a dumb question but when I am driving down a street that has many intersecting streets my Nuvi displays the upcoming streets but not the street I am driving on. Many streets signs in my area only mark the intersecting street but not the main travel road. Is there a way to get the Nuvi to display the street you are currently driving on?

Watch the green bar at the top

When not near an intersection, it will tell you what road you are on.

Suburban streets prevent current street display

I find that on suburban streets around me there is rarely a time the current street is displayed. The Nuvi goes from one intersecting street to the next without the displaying the road I am traveling on. I tried touching different parts of the screen but without success.

Same Here

brentrn, I am in the same situation. The older streets around me, 4 years or more old are displayed, but the newer ones are not. My street is 3½ years old and is still not displayed. I think it depends on when the cities, counties, or whoever gets the info. to Navteq, when it gets input.

Speed Dependent?

Many of the functions on the nuvi are speed dependent.

When on a route it will zoom out to .5mi until you reach about 58mph, then it will zoom out to, but not exceed, the distance to the next turn (up to 30mi).

When not on a route, it will zoom out to your low speed preference until about 50mph, then out to your highspeed preference. You set these preferences by setting the zoom on the map screen.

Perhaps the display of upcoming intersections is also speed dependent, though I have not tested that yet. At higher speeds, it might give you more warning, thus displaying the road you are driving on less. I did notice that if the intersecting road has different names, the nuvi will display the righthand name.

Current address on other Garmin units

My old StreetPilot 2610 has a tab that can display your current address as you move down a street. It is pretty useful when numbers are hard to see, but it is often inaccurate about the specific address at a specific location. I still would like to see an option such as touching the green bar giving the current address.

address

on my Nuvi 680 just touch the car or truck or whatever icon you have to tell you where you are and it will pull up a little box with your current address in with numbers and street..........Dave

Thanks for the answer

I see that if I hold the vehicle icon it switches to the 2-D map with the save button. I now see that the address is in a little box by the vehicle icon. Thanks!
