I just got my first GPS (Nuvi660). I apologize for these basic questions, but I cannot find answers browsing other posts or FAQ's.
1. Can I associate new icons with the "pre-loaded" POI's? For example, my local Starbucks uses a generic "diner" icon. Target shows a generic "shopping bag" icon.
2. If I have a "custom" POI file uploaded, does the GPS look in both its own native database and the custom one for POI's, or is it either-or? How does it know which to use, eg if you have lets say a Target (with its correct icon) uploaded as "custom" POI, that point would now be in both the pre-loaded database (with the generic icon) and the custom database.
Thanks for the help. Is there a perhaps more extensive FAQ list that anyone knows of that would help me adapt to using these POI / Tourguide features?

Re #1: Nope. Nothing can be done with the pre-existing POIs.
Re #2: If you have a Favorite or custom POI that duplicates one of the pre-existing, it will "overlay" the pre-existing ones - when you zoom in on the map all the way, and then start zooming out, the pre-existing ones show up when zoomed in all the way, and at the first level zooming out; Favorites & custom POIs are always shown on the map.
Tourguide: use the search function in the forum here and find previous discussions - we've had some, and I think there are a few people who have it figured out...I'm not among them.

Custom vs built in POI

features?
The databases are different, and if you are doing a search, it will only find the built in POIs. In order to search for a custom POI, you need to be looking under Custom POI.

good questions
and good answers.
I haven't looked but I think if you are looking at your custom poi's you will only be able to search using the "Spell" feature.
However, logically speaking - if you are looking for Target Stores and you don't have any Target Stores in a custom poi file (you'll know if you do or don't), then you will only find Target Stores when searching the pre-installed poi data base.
If you do have a Target Stores custom poi file loaded, when you select "Custom POI's" > Target Stores > you will then see the 50 closest locations
