**** sorry if this is a dumb question ***
I lost all my POI files (CSV and GPX) on my computer.
The POI's are on my Garmin. How would I transfer the POI files from my Garmin back to my computer?
that the POI files on your device are in either .csv or .gpx format - which is what the files on your computer used to be. When you run POILoader, it converts the POI files on your computer to a .gpi file which is the format that your device needs.
Getting up on the soapbox for a moment - everyone needs to have a backup schedule. The computer guru that I follow recommends Macrium Reflect Free (https://www.macrium.com/reflectfree). You can buy on Amazon a small USB device (eg. https://www.amazon.com/Orange-Passport-Portable-External-Dri...) that can be put into a safe or a safety deposit box for safekeeping. Taking an "image" of your hard drive at least once a month will reduce the pain when your hard drive has problems - as it ultimately will.
That said, it should be relatively easy for you to re-download the POI files you want from the Factory.
So are you saying it cannot be done?
The only way is to re-download each and every POI file from here?!
Assuming that you have a PC, the files on your computer are not LOST! All that happens is when you delete something whether intentionally or accidentally is that the files are still on the hard drive. But the very first letter has been removed from the files.
A recovery program can find these for you provided you have not written or added programs to the PC which will overwrite files.
When it finds files all you do is add the first letter again and then recover them.
See this link for recovery programs:
If you look under My Favorite Files, on right side of screen under your screen name. It will list all the files you downloaded from POI Factory. Red light and speed cameras are the exception. Just re-down load them.
I haven't found a way to convert them back to csv or gpx.
I haven't tried it but have read in this and other forums that the GPSBabel utility program will convert .gpi files back to .csv or .gpx.
