Thanks for the 'heads up' - just installed.

Log

Mac

This version includes the following changes:

-If you’ve purchased a map from a vendor that contains a voucher code, the code can be redeemed through Express to activate and download the map.

-Fixed two issues with some of our earlier fitness devices, such as the Edge 305 and Forerunner 305.

-These devices can be added to Express if you’re running 10.11.

-Express would indicate a successful sync, but any activity on the device would not upload to Garmin Connect. The activities are uploading successfully now.

-Other minor bug fixes and improvements.

PC

This version includes the following changes:

-If you’ve purchased a map from a vendor that contains a voucher code, the code can be redeemed through Express to activate and download the map.

-It’s always best to keep Garmin Express up to date with the latest version. Express will now provide an alert when a new update is available. This will allow you to know right away and not have to depend on going into the Settings to check for updates.

-Other minor bug fixes and improvements.

I found that this PC update did not preserve my Settings/General choices and had checked both boxes so it may be worthwhile checking the settings after you install the new version if you prefer to have these boxes unchecked for "run in background" and "autostart."

I found the same thing. Had to uncheck both boxes.
Having said that. I assume that is why GE takes up to 45 seconds or so to open up?

Yes indeed. I wonder if this new "feature" is the cause:

Thanks

Was not expecting a new Express since maps had just been updated.

You'd have to be crazy to leave GE running in the background eating up CPU and memory. How often does anyone use it? Only when a map update comes along !

Same goes for many other programs. If you want to use it then execute the program.

Thank You

Thanks for the info. I agree that it is a waste to let it run in the background. I un-check the boxes in Garmin Express and then disable the update scheduled task using the program CCleaner.

I take it a step further. I

I take it a step further. I run GE only in a VM (vmworkstation). Once the updates are complete the vm gets shut down.

Fitness devices.

Folks who use Garmin's fitness devices probably run it frequently to upload and track their exercise activities ... daily or even multiple times a day if they exercise regularly. Most updates to Express are related to these fitness devices, not to the automotive navigation customers.
