Garmin City Navigator North America NT v 2008 Upgrade Free from Garmin

Anyone know how to resolve my issue:
I have a 350 and a 660. I bought the map update locally to update my 660. My 350 was eligible for a free update. I assumed I could use the dvd I had bought with a new unlock code so I didn't request one be mailed to me. I got the unlock code via email for the 350 update but I can't use it with the dvd I bought retail. It won't accept a 25 digit unlock code, only the 8 digit code on the case and I already used it to update my 660.
Anyone know how I can make it work or get a copy of a disc to use with my unlock code?

Purchased Nuvi 350 last week. Fantastic product. Called Garmin a few days ago requesting the Garmin City Navigator North America NT v 2008 so I could us and unlock Mapsource on my computer for a TourGuide project.

Impressive results! Received the DVD via UPS in a small box on my doorstep yesterday. This is superb customer service by Garmin.

If your 350 is eligible for a free update, call Garmin and ask them to send you the disk.

I just bought a Nuvi 350 last week also. What's Mapsource? Is it included with the 350 (I didn't see anything in the box about it)?

It's a program you install on your computer to manage your Favorites and transfer them between your computer and you GPS unit.

The nuvi doesn't come with it. You have to call and ask Garmin to send it to you if you want it.

If you search the forum, you will find several threads on how people got it from Garmin

When I logged on to the Garmin website last week, there was a link that said I was eligible for a free upgrade to NT V 2008. I followed the steps to have the DVD mailed to me.

who can tell me what is garmin telephone # I called them but it was not garmin tel any can tell me the phone # you got acces

does this have more street detail then the one loaded in the nuvi 660?

Just curious as to how long it takes for Garmin to ship the new maps to you typically? I am just wondering if I need to call them or not. I purchased a Nuvi350 about 2 weeks ago and registered it and the website told me that it was elgible for a free update to 2008 maps. I have not received anything yet.

It took about 4-5 weeks to get my updates. I ordered it through the website the end of August, and got it yesterday. It was easy to install, but took a little while to complete.

I purchased my Nuvi 350 on Sep. 11 and registered it online that night, and was offered the new maps as part of the registration process. It had the v.7 maps version which was quite out of date. The 2008 map updates arrived by UPS exactly three weeks later on Oct. 2. Loading the new maps went smoothly and it took exactly 90 minutes, just as others have reported.

I just bought my Nuvi 350 on Sept 15th and registered it the following week, so I guess I will give it another week or so to see if the update arrives before calling. Thanks for the replies!

I ordered my free Map Update 2008 online with Garmin on 9/18/07 and it arrived on 10/8/07. The update was problem free.

Update arrived today and I was able to install it with no problems! Took about 90 minutes as everyone said it would. Found out that there was a new firmware available for my Nuvi also - it installed that automatically before the map update.

I just received my free City Navigator North America 2008 NT update DVD. I ordered the update online just two weeks ago. I bought my Nuvi 350 in early March. I'm happy that Garmin has made this offer available.

I bought my Nuvi 350 this past week and updated my unit via Garmin's Webupdater program. I didn't realize at the time that Mapsource can be loaded onto my computer and used for mapping and uploads to the unit.

Is there a link on the Garmin website for ordering a free DVD of the program? Any information will be greatly appreciated.

I'm disapointed .I can't find some places where were in my city for many years on the new 2008 maps .

Fred, the nuvi 350 doesn't come with MapSource, but many users have been successful when calling and asking Garmin to send it to them for free. The key seems to be to tell them that you want to use it to manage your Favorites and transfer them between the GPS unit and the computer.

They will at first perhaps tell you that you don't need it because you can't load routes to that unit (which is true) but you should be successful if you tell them that you understand that part but that you want to use it for your Favorites.

Also, you might want to check the map version on your unit to be sure that you have the latest version of the maps which is v2008 for the North America version.

Just registered my Garmin nuvi 370 on the web, after setting up a myGarmin account. After I entered the registration code that came with the GPS, it told me that I am eligible for free upgrade.

I just saw an ad in Best Buy and Circuit City for the 2008 map update ($69.99). But the ad says the update is for those who have had their Garmon for over a year.

I've had mine for 40 weeks. The update DVD I have for it is the City Navigator NT North American V8. Is the 2008 Map Date in the stores a newer verison?

Yes, the NT2008 is the newest version. The V8 is the previous version. Some people think the update is worth it, others do not...

Ordered v2008 update Aug 28 via Garmin website on advice of nice Garmin Rep. It arrived 6 wks later and installed nicely. My 360 was between 60-90 days old, and referenced with their serial # database which qualified me for the free update. Great Product.

Anybody know if I can still get one? I understand that I would have to call like 5 millions times or e-mail as many times in order to get someone that will help me out, but I was just wondering if it was still possible.

Does it normally take 6 weeks for Garmin to ship the disk? I called them yesterday, since I'm eligible for the update and was told that it is on backorder.

They offered me the free upgrade, then when I said I was in Canada they got all confused... finally the agreed to send it out.

I have a friend that has a c530 purchased in April. We tried to call and get the update for him, but the Garmin rep said the c530 was never shipped with v2008 and so is not elgible but said they would sell it to him. Anyone have success getting the v2008 for it from Garmin?

Others have had success. The c530 will not hold the entire maps, you need to load the lower 48 states. Then, with mapsource, you can move the remaining states and Canada to an SD card.

I bought mine in September, registered it and at that time it said I was eligible for free update. I phoned Garmin about two weeks ago, requesting update.
"Jenifer" said she would send me the update but it was on back order at the time. Received my update today, it was shipped October 30, so took about a week to get to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. First try at updating quit at about 45% . I am running Vista Ultimate so clicked on setup, chose Run as Administrator and install completed in about 90 minutes. Seems to be okay so far, kept My Favorites and Recent items. 5 STARS for Garmin.

Finally, got the map update after 8 weeks.

I bought my Nuvi 680 on November 23 and received my free update - Map Update 2008 City Navigator North America NT on December 18. I have heard that the update is now out of stock. Maybe you could order one from Garmin, buy the update now at Best Buy or Circuit City, and then "return" it when you get the disk from Garmin.

I helped a friend update his c530. When updating the C530 with the v2008, I only get the option to load the lower 48 states or Canada. I loaded the lower 48 states onto the unit, but can I place the Canada maps onto a SD card? If so, how do you do that???

I have the C-530 and just got it for X-mas. The pre-loaded maps are from about a year and a half ago which basically would be alright for me but I noticed that they just came out with the Map Update 2008 City Navigator® North America NT.
If you read all the posts in this forum someone said to call Garmin customer support and ask for the free upgrade. When they say their little speech and tell you they can't give it to you ask if you can speak to their supervisor. They will say sure hold on and then 2 minutes later come back and say they can give you the free upgrade. I did exactly that and it worked perfectly. Got a confirmation # and everything Said it will be shipped by UPS in 4 or 5 weeks.

I bought (and registered) my C550 about a month before the map upgrades were released. It took one phone call to get authorized free upgrades. It was clear that before providing any information, Garmin verified that my unit was in fact registered.

I just called Garmin about my c330 and the v8 maps. I was trying to get the 2008 software, but she said that she would send me the v8 software for the computer so that I could use it with nroute. At the end of the call she said that she will also send me the 2008 software. Very nice.

how do i determine which version i have - purchased nuvi 660 on 2/2/08?

i gather the only way to get upgrade now is to call- nothing on their web-site

If you go to Settings/Wrench > Map > Map Info on your GPS unit, you will see the map version.

If you register your unit at myGarmin.com, it should indicate whether you are eligible for a free update and probably have a link to order it.

If not, after registering, just call Garmin.

Anyone know if there is a big difference from the 2007 version? Is it worth the $80?
