Does SD affect GPSr Performance?

This might have already been discussed, but I did not find it in a search.

Does having an SD card in the nuvi affect system performance, screen refresh, calculation speed, battery life ...?

My understanding is that the only performance aspect that the SD card affects is in the initial load time when it is loading maps, etc. Once loaded, performance is not affected.
