BaseCamp and MapSource will suck waypoints from my 2595, but neither will suck routes (trips) from it. However, both will suck routes from my 2797. Is this a design feature of the 2595?
What exactly are you trying to do? Are you talking about routes or the trip log?
Routes that appear in the trip planner app, if that's what you mean, should show in BaseCamp.

That's what I mean, and they don't. And based on what you said over in the other forum, you've succeeded in confusing me.
I was hoping that someone actually had a 2595, and could tell me if theirs does the same thing. I don't want to keep trying to fix this thing if it was Garmin that broke it when they built it.
Sorry for the confusion. As I said in the other forum there are two versions of trip planner. The original and the one introduced from 2013 onwards, due to complaints about the way the original one worked. The new version is more like the older Route planner that existed before Trip planner was introduced. You have the earlier Trip planner on your 2595 and the later one on your 2797, and so that might explain the difference. There was an issue with some models a few years ago now but I can't find the detail at the moment. IIRC it was that while some could send trips to them using BaseCamp you couldn't import routes into BC, so from what you say the 2595 model may be one of those.
Can't now find the link to the Garmin FAQ on this but this copied from a saved document. Seems I was right about the 2505 series
To access a transferred route in a zumo 350, dezl series, LIVE series, or nuvi 2400, 2405, 2505, 3400, 3500, or 3700 series device:
◦Touch Tools on the dezl 560 series
2.Touch Trip Planner
3.Allow time for the device to automatically import the trip/route
These Trip Planner devices will take several minutes to automatically import trips into the Trip Planner. The import will automatically begin, but no message will appear on the device indicating that the import is happening. Once the import is complete, all transferred routes will be displayed under a category called Unscheduled Trips in the Trip Planner (Note 1). Until the trips show up in Trip Planner, please do not turn off the device or connect it to a computer.
*Please note: When routes are imported to your Garmin device, the route may change due to navigation settings within your device.
Note 1 Units that create routes using Trip Planner cannot send routes to MapSource or BaseCamp. However, units that utilize Trip Planner will be able to receive routes from BaseCamp and MapSource
Sorry that I don't have a 2595 to test on and hopefully someone who does will chime in here.
If you haven't done so already, try putting your 2595 in mass storage mode instead of MTP mode. Basecamp should be able to pull in the Trip Planner routes from the 2595 device. I think there were a couple of older models (maybe the 23xx series?) that never received a software upgrade to allow route transfer, but AFAIK, the 25x5 series should work.
Not according to that Garmin FAQ I quoted. You're right that some wouldn't even accept a route from BaseCamp but there were also a few, as listed above, where BaseCamp couldn't import the trips, which includes the 2505 series.
I can't recall a software update changing it either, but it's always a possibility although we know Garmin are reluctant to upgrade their devices, preferring instead that we buy new ones
Here's the changelog. Can't see that function has been added
I somehow skimmed past that note at the bottom. Shame on Garmin (again!). This is something they should have fixed with a software update.
