My 755T Won't Boot!

I looked at all previous posts, with no help. Here are the symptoms. Switch on, loads Garmin screen, then "loading maps" screen, then the white line that is supposed slowly turns green, only mine doesn't turn green! It just shuts off! Argh! Help

charge the battery

Charge the battery using a wall charger for five hours. In the boot process, the most current is drawn just as the operating system is starting and the display is about to come on. Cold weather also weakens the battery.

if you just plug it into a

if you just plug it into a charger it seems like it would over ride a weak battery and provide enough power to boot.

if that doesn't work I would try reinstalling the maps
then the firmware.

Start up

Charlie. Nuvi 265 WT and Nuvi 2597 LMT. MapFactor Navigator - Offline Maps & GPS.

I have tried

Argh! I have tried to charge the unit, but it seems to not allow even to accept the charge. I tried plugging it in to the computer port, and also tried plugging it in into the cigarette lighter 12 v in the car. Same result each time, ie, it loads the Garmin screen, then shuts off again. It will not allow me to access the menu via the mini port, so I can’t delete and reload anything. I am wondering if there may be a problem with the on/off switch?
I still need some serious help, now it’s just becoming an obsession. What is wrong with this thing?

It takes time

It takes time to charge the battery - several hours. It does not happen in a few minutes. The computer USB port supplies half the current that a wall charger does, and it might turn off when it goes to sleep. Keep the GPS warm. Freezing temperatures cut the battery capacity 50%.

After the unit is charged, hold the power button constantly for longer than three minutes to make it start.

Thanks dobs108

Thanks I will giv3 er a go!

It just connected to my computer

This is new. It never used to do this. It would just get locked into the loop I described. I will see if it will work now. I will let it charge fully. I put in a new battery three months ago. I am downloading/updating the new maps as we text.
Should I delete some of the files and re-install to allow for the possibility of corrupted files?
Which ones to delete and reload?

If I need, I think I can do it from the windows 10 file folder menu.

I’m getting closer, I am still wondering if there is an intermittent hardware problem with the on/off switch......anyone heard anything about those possibilities?

USB port?

It was probably just a depleted battery,so hopefully getting it back to a full charge will solve your problem. That said, it is possible the USB port on your 755 is going bad and not allowing a consistent connection to keep the battery charged. If that is the case, you will find out soon enough because the problem will reoccur.

Nuvi 755T

A Nuvi should power up and boot normally when connected to any working external charger/power source. It will even boot when the battery has been disconnected!

However it won't go into charge mode or be able to communicate via the USB communications until it boots to the main menu. If the unit continues to power off right after the logo screen or during the map loading process, while connected to an external power source, this can be caused by a corrupted map/system file or corrupted internal flash drive.

During boot-up the Nuvi attempts to write to the drive. If it can't, it powers off. If that is the case, it is best to access the drive information via pre-boot mode, copy the files over to a PC, reformat the internal flash drive and then restore the files.

In some cases, the internal drive can become write-protected which prevents any files to be placed on the drive.

The Nuvi 755T can be charged/powered by either the USB port or by the cradle. Try both.
