Micro SD card help

I have a Garmin dezl760LM and I installed a 8GB Sandisk micro DS card in the slot. Now what? Is there a way to format it in the GPS? It isn't seeing the card now and when I hook the GPS to the computer is shows the internal storage is pretty full with a suggestion to add more memory via a card.

Thank you in advance.

SD card

That is the right size card and the best brand. If it is new it is already formatted, with no need to do it again.

There is no way for the GPS to format the card. Never format the card with the PC when it is inside the GPS. There is a good chance you will format the GPS instead of the card!

Garmin Express constantly warns about full internal storage and suggests inserting an SD card even after you have already done that! After the card is inserted it waits until the absolute last minute before using the card! Internal storage can be 99% full and the card will not be used.

Do not worry! While doing a future map update, Garmin Express will split the map in two with part on internal storage and part on the card. It will have no indication of doing that. You can see afterward by viewing the device and the card with the PC.

SD card

When connected to your computer does the SD card show up? I use my SD card in my Garmin to store custom POI rather than in internal storage, that can free up memory. I also use the card for TOPO maps of New Mexico where I live and all surrounding states. Do you use Basecamp, this program allows you to maps load into the SD card.

Either your card is bad, not

Either your card is bad, not formatted, nothing written to the card or lastly the GPS microSD slot is bad. As another suggested, connect to a PC that has the ability to read the card directly.

Well ...

... not sure if the OP is expecting to see some sort of indication on his device or in Express that the card is installed, if so that doesn't happen. If when he looks at his device via his PC or Mac the card doesn't show something is wrong.

Now use it. What do you want to store in the microSD card? I store map and MP3 in my 4GB card. When inserted, my Nuvi recognizes it and reads it just fine.

What makes you think the GPS isn't seeing the card? What data is currently stored in the card? Are you seeing the external (memory) card in the computer?

poor warning

I also was distracted by the warning message that my storage had little margin left and I should consider adding a card--given more than once after I had added the card!

Just a crummy user interface "feature", unless, of course, you actually have a bad slot, bad card, incompletely inserted card, giving the same symptoms.
