Hurricane Irma

I am evacuating due to Irma. Probably will be a delay in responding to inputs for my files. Hopefully it will only be for a few days.

Irma

Godspeed to you Mahoney and to all others in the path of Irma. Get out and be safe.

Good luck

Hope you're safe wherever you're going to Mahoney.

I'm now going to offend a whole lot of people.

In Western Canada they have had MAJOR wildfires going for about two months now and NO rain. Much destruction from the fires.
I'll bet there are millions of people PRAYING for RAIN.

Then Houston gets more rain, over 4 feet of it.
Much property destruction in the billions of dollars and lives lost.
I'll bet there were hundreds of thousands praying for the rain to stop.

Now two more very bad hurricanes coming and possibly taking many lives and property destruction
I'll bet that there are more millions of people praying that they may be spared.

Where is the god they are praying to?

Be Safe

Be safe Mahoney & everyone affected.

It's been many decades since I worked for the NWS on hurricane prediction & naming the storms. I worked on creating the first list of hurricanes which included male names & the list of names of storms still yield a few names that I included in my list. My wife's name still comes up every few years. My neighborhood & friends still get a kick out of that one.

Irma - jose

Don't come back too soon before you know Jose will not be a factor.
Here's hoping your home will not be damaged

Be Safe and Good Luck!

I have been involved with emergency response for a number of disasters - mostly floods. The sad truth is that, while the incident usually lasts only a few days, the devastation and recovery can take years!

I hope everyone affected by Harvey, Irma and Jose remains safe and suffers minimal impact.

Irma

All the shelters in my area (west central Florida) are full to capacity
and there are still long lines to get in.
I am fairly close to the Gulf but I am 20 feet above sea level,
I have a new roof and my windows are rated for 200 mph winds
My garage door is rated for Florida hurricane code.
At this time there is no place to evacuate to. roads are jammed and no gas to be had. As long as I have a generator, plenty of food and water.
I really have no choice but ride it out.
Hopefully by the time the storm gets up to area it will weaken some
They figure the winds will around 80 to 100.
I can live with that.
But I do wish everybody a safe weekend and will not have much damage.

Irma

I am on the East side. They told everyone to leave here. Now everyone is headed this way. Some Friends went to the Tampa area to get away. The hotels there closed and kicked everyone out so they are back home.

Predictions

As good as the prediction models have become, nature still has the last word. Last time I looked it seemed that Key West and Tampa were going to be direct hits.

Irma

I am in north west Pasco
This morning my two neighbors left to drive to Texas they had a full tank of gas and a 5 gal can. I did not think they would make it because of the traffic. I was wrong, traffic on us 19 was moving at 50 mph, they found a station with gas almost by Perry and filled up. us 10 was moving at 70 mph with all the gas you would want All the shelters here are full.
I hope everybody comes thru this in good shape

Thanks for the news. Although I no longer have relatives in FL, until recently my parents and an aunt and uncle lived in Clearwater. I was wondering about travel conditions on US 19 since I drove it so many times on my way to visit. My parents' last residence was an Independent Living retirement center in Tampa along a canal off the Bay and its ground floor was probably ten feet above sea level.

Stay safe and dry.

Thanks

When my friend drove up yesterday traffic was light, but with the storm moving in I would expect it to get a lot heavier with gas a lot harder to get

Irma

Thoughts and prayers for those in the path of Irma. We start getting remnants here starting tomorrow. So far my brother in Orlando and a friend in Leesburg are doing OK though they have lost electric.

God Speed

To all in the path of Irma - stay safe.

Irma

I lucked out in a big way. I am just off the gulf in Hudson FL. Never lost power and no damage to house, Some neighbors had trees come down and a lot lost power (must be because I am pure of heart) LOL

...of some of these reporters. They tell you how dangerous it is and yet they are standing outside getting blown all over the place. A total lack of common sense. Ratings. All about ratings.

checking in

Other than the scary Sunday night with the wind and rain everything is OK in the house, West Tampa came out better than I expect it, my side of the street never lost electric power but can't say the same for my neighbors across the street, they lost power Sunday 9pm and now is Tuesday 3pm and still they wait to be restored, the humm of generators could be heard late into the night, the flooded streets in my neighborhood were no worse than what we get during summer rain storms.
We dodged the bullet in Tampa considering what could have been.

[Update] It is Tuesday 9pm and neighbors still without power {generators running for lights and fridge} NO AC in Florida heat

Prayers to everyone still

Prayers to everyone still recovering from Hurricane Harvey and now having to go through Hurricane Irma.

Just got Internet

No water for a day, power for 2 days, finally got cable and internet. Unfortunately work got power and I had to work today

Mahoney

I got a note from Mahoney today.
He's well and busy cleaning up.
His power was just restored recently.
I have to admit I was getting worried. I think this has been the longest he's been away from our community in over 10 years. razz

Update

Thankfully, my wife and I are back home and all utilities, electricity and water have been restored. We did experience some damage and some inconviences, no power and no water, but it is relatively minor compared to what others here on Merritt Island,Fl and other locations throughout the southeast have endured. Many of them have lost everything and our prayers go out to them. This was definitely the worst hurricane that we have gone thru in out 50 plus years living in Florida.

Just took my shutters down

Just took my shutters down today as I was waiting to see the direction of the other storms out there. No damage to our house but lots of landscape damage and cleanup. Life is getting back to normal. -JEP-
