Can you still disable Junction View?

It has been a long time since I regularly used by 2595, but another upcoming trip has me planning and getting my old unit ready.

I ready hate Junction View, and used to rename the file to disable the feature. I know the jcv file was in the jcv folder, but those don't appear in my file manager, even with the hidden folders and files visible. Any suggestions on how to disable this feature is appreciated.

Thanks

.system

My guess is that you've missed the PC Settings, Step 6:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/30393

i.e., uncheck the box.

A caution ...

Just a "heads up" about disabling junction view. Since about 2013 as Garmin has added more junction views with each map update, they have been gradually removing the Lane Assist arrows (the multiple arrows in the upper left corner) and showing only the standard "curved arrow". So without junction view you no longer get specific lane information on some interchanges.

I know we have discussed this somewhere in this or another forum, but I couldn't find it.

Thanks

Didn't know that about the newer Garmins. Good to know, thanks for posting this.

That's it!

Thanks CraigW. I had missed that step. Junction View has been banished again!

Good tip

Thanks for the tip Alandb. Lane Assist is something I do find useful in the most complicated situations. I'll stay aware for locations where it is not working.

JCV

People are scrambling to get the newest JCV file when a map-update comes out.

I can use the large JCV in my 855 and I love it when the photo-realistic picture comes up showing me exactly what is up ahead.

Unfortunately I don't get that with my 2797, it can only use the small JCV file. I only get the "cartoon version".

My in car Garmin based in Nav unit does not have this feature.

I would never want to disable that feature, especially on my long drives twice a year when I'm unfamiliar territory.

Junction View

Like Melaqueman, I find Junction View very helpful, but if one wants to disable it, they should be able to do so easily and not have to go through misery.

Never Knew This

Thanks for the info on this although I wish they could leave both since I liked the arrows in the upper left but I'm assuming storage space is the issue to keep them both so they're giving up one for another.

2800 miles without a hitch

We're back from our trip. 2800 miles total and not a hitch or hiccup that I noticed. We had a great view of the total eclipse from Wyoming too!

Lane Assist worked wonderfully, as usual. I' very happy with that feature. It is very helpful. So glad I didn't have to deal with Junction View. Others may like it but I can't stand it. There should be a menu checkbox to turn it off.

Well ...

At least you can disable it unlike active lane guidance. That's part of the map and while I like junction view I can't stand active lane guidance.

Interesting

I'm curious what you don't like about it. I find it to be a useful feature, and one that is rather unobtrusive. I used it a few times on this trip when approaching a few left hand exits when I was in the right lane. I usually could start moving over well before the first road sign indicated the exit was to the left. A few other times it put me in the lane I wanted when there were exits with multiple routings, and each lane went in a different direction.

Apples & oranges?

You mentioned Lane Assist earlier. Sussamb replied that he dislikes Active Lane Guidance. These are not the same thing. Active lane guidance (starts at about 7 seconds):

Like it or not (I don't), it's certainly not "rather unobtrusive." surprised

Odd.

It does seem odd that someone would dislike junction views but like active lane guidance. But then we all have our own likes and dislikes. I originally didn't like junction view when it was full screen, but came to appreciate it with split screen. I am kind of indifferent about active lane guidance because I think it is a lot like junction view, only animated. I do wish Garmin would stop removing the lane assist arrows when they add new JCV's and active lane guidance.

Since we all have different preferences, it is a shame that Garmin does not put more user control on these features.

Yikes!

You are correct. I was referring to Lane Assist and not Active Lane Guidance. I had not seen Active Lane Guidance before seeing that video. I haven't noticed it on my own unit, a 2595, and would be really unhappy if I had that pop up on my unit.

~snip~

... I drive for a living and when I am in unfamiliar territory I find the more info the better, especially since I drive a tri-axle dump truck (when loaded 73,000 lbs) and making lanes changes aren't as quick or easy as a car can make one.
