I have a Garmin 50 that only displays "Garmin" upon startup and then nothing else. When I connect it to the windows 10 computer it is not recognized. After reading other posts I tried Cure3 and that resulted in an error which said "not a garmin format". I can't do anything else with it. Should I buy another one?
Not sure if this would help, but have you tried to do a hard reset on it.
If you mean hold on to the corner while turning it on, I tried that with no results.
Charge the GPS with a Garmin wall outlet charger for 5 hours. Then start by holding the power button for up to a minute. If that doesn't start it, then do a reset.
It is very important to try the simple fixes first. Don't start with the "nuclear option."
I did exactly that and found the same results. I decided to disassemble it and disconnect the battery for ten minutes hoping to reset it. I got the same results again. It just displays "Garmin" and nothing else happens. Windows still doesn't recognize it.
Try giving Garmin a call. I called them a few months ago and their customer service person was actually really good.
Maybe you can try another usb cable? Maybe ...
Had one that did the same exact thing.
Great to see the different options.
I tried another USB cable and even another computer. No luck. It still just displays "Garmin ". I called Garmin and they were very helpful. They sent me links to download new drivers and a file to replace the software on my Nuvi. Unfortunately, nothing helped after all that, it still did not work. They said I could send it in for repairs for $85.00 but I'm going to buy a new one for a few dollars more.
Thanks for suggestions and RIP nuvi 50.
sounds like a good decision to me
