New cars with Garmin GPS Systems ?

How many of the new cars available today have Garmin systems installed in them ?

The next car I buy, I hope will have a Garmin system in it.

Thanks.

Well ...

... I'd only buy a car with a Garmin installed if it could be removed and connected to my PC so I could use BaseCamp etc or if there was some other way to swap data to/from my PC.

I'd like to know that too.

I'd like to know that too.

New Cars With Garmin GPS Systems ?

I bought a 2016 Honda Pilot EX-L last week. It was roughly $40,000.00. The next model up included Garmin GPS built in and was another $8.000.00. Obviously, that wasn't the only additional feature. I did give it some serious thought, but the vehicle is primarily my wife's and she wanted the EX-L.

I did, however, test drive one with the built in Garmin. It worked quite well and it would be pretty sweet having it built in!

I second that.

I couldn't agree with you more. I'm a Garmin loyalist for life!

I am

really into the google on my android now, ever since Memorial Day.

I just bought a 2006 Toyota product, and it has a factory nav. Looks funny with the low res, but I suppose back then this was whiz bang technology, even the bluetooth and SAT radio (it has a factory externally mounted antenna for the SAT radio, and it does work).

But, to tell you the truth, I do like to have a map on the display, in this car and my wife's, with north facing up. Then I use my phone for navigation. On Sat., it took us from Westchester, to northern NJ, via the Tappan Zee. I trust google so much that there must have been a problem with the George Washington, and so it took us north, to go south.

I ordered a 2016 DVD for this system, and it only cost $13 on eBay. imho that is justifiable...

Boo WHOO WHOO...

I was very disheartened to find my Trabant wasn't listed as a vehicle with an indash Garmin! crying

Never argue with a pig. It makes you look foolish and it anoys the hell out of the pig!

Garmin based

My 2015 VW Passat has a Garmin based GPS factory installed.

By comparison to any Garmin such as my long gone Nuvi 350, my Nuvi 855, the Nuvi 3790 my daughter has now and my Nuvi 2797, it sucks. Awkward to manipulate. Inability to install custom POI's and/or make them work. There is a LIMIT of 20 categories you can install. Tried to install RLC's, but they do NOT show up either visually nor audibly. Same results for speed cams!

All I have been able to install after a LOT of internet research are "way-points" for route creations.

Wow

Even with a Garmin system in your vehicle, the map updates are not free. $149 seems way to much

You're referring to the stealer price.
If you know where to look you can get updated maps, FW. etc for under $ 50.00 delivered.

Hi Melaqueman.

Please give us a hint where to get the updates for $50. I have not updated my 3 Honda vehicles for 3 years due to the cost. If I can get the latest maps for $50 each, I'd update each unit.

Personally with Waze

Personally with Waze integration in Android Auto I cant see a reason to spend extra for a built in Garmin or any Navigation that charges for updates

I know

For Toyota/Lexus, $12.95. When I have a chance I would like to find a similar deal for GM. I just put the $12.95 dvd in on Monday, and verified my factory nav is up to date with the current version. Nobody should be buying a disc from a dealer imho, not even rich people....

I think

I don't own a Honda, but I'm going to guess on eBay. Just buy it from someone who has a 100% positive rating, there are many.

And then I believe you can resell it on ebay when your done.
