I will make this short. I plan a route from Tuscaloosa,Ala to Jackson, Ga. When I was pass thru, Newnan,Ga it want to route me to I-85 North to I 285 across to I-75 South. I didn't know why. I reverse the route and the GPS wanted to route me to I-75 north to I-285 and than to I-85 south. I rechecked every thing, I saw where I had set it for the fastest route. I changed it to the shortest route and that did the trick. I-85 pass next to Newnan,Ga and the GPS took that as the fastest route. So in planning a route check on the Interstate hwy to make sure it is not located next to your routing.

How did you plan to go from Newnan to Jackson? I wouldn't have chosen to go to Newnan at all. I would have stayed on I20 to I285, it's 30 minutes faster.
There is no easy or quick way to from Newnan to Jackson without taking the Interstate.

Then you need to set
Then you need to set Navigation>Avoidences and check Hiways. Other wise, even in shortest, it will put you on an Interstate.
