Before I click on such a link, can you tell us what type of "programs" these are and how they might be useful?

Have not used the POI tools from JaVaWa but have used the RTWtool which offers a ton of tools for working with Tracks, Routes, and Waypoints including converting a collection of waypoints into a route.

I also use JaVaWa's Device Manager program which helps to manage the contents of your Garmin device as well as providing lots of information about the maps on your device or on your SD card and a pretty good backup and restore facility.

The link just has the POImaker templates for Excel and OpenOffice (should you want to use and download) although POImaker has been retired because it says the functionality (converting CSV to GPX files and finding coordinates using addresses, that is, geocoding) has been incorporated into the program JaVaWa RTWtool. It's the JaVaWa RTWtool and others that's important here. It's the v4.2 version that has the incorporated POImaker into JaVaWa RTWtool. As it says, POImaker is right there within JaVaWaRTWtool. The application can create POI on its own. Don't worry, the links are safe to open. I have already installed and used some of the applications. I'm still on the learning curve using JaVaWa RTWtool and I find it really useful. So many features I can't mention here. Just go to http://www.javawa.nl/rtwtool_en.html and read the documentation and features of the programs. It has both Windows and Mac versions. Guys, I'm sure you'll like them.

... there are really good tools there. GMTK and Device Manager are my favorites. GMTK allows you to backup/transfer your Garmin maps to another computer without any issue.
