I am maintaining the Braum's Ice Cream & Burger Restaurant stores. charlesd45 contributed the .bmp and .wav files

You will find the POI along with the .bmp and .wav files at the link below:

Braum's is one of my favorite places. I probably eat a hamburger and fries there about 2 or 3 times a month. My favorite was the River Oaks, Texas store (out of Fort Worth) as that is where I grew up. The River Oaks Braum's just closed and it's like loosing a good friend.

All stores have been checked with EPE and Google Earth.

Proud

Mary, I am really proud of you. Over the years I have seen you grow greatly in knowledge and become a great contributor to out site.

Well Done!!

If you are not yet using Extra POI Editor (EPE) then you should consider doing so. As I have built files or taken them over from someone else, EPE has been invaluable to me.

What I love to do is to let EPE show me the Google Earth satellite view so that I can determine the exact location of the building. When I do find the location, I then look for an entrance to the building off of a nearby road. That is where I will place the coordinates that are used in the POI file.

I adopted this habit because there will be certain files where a user would want to know when a location was nearby and be able to make a "snap" decision to stop in. When I am on vacation, I like to stop into a Dairy Queen and have a caramel sundae while my wife has a chocolate dipped cone. As you may recall, if POI coordinates are within roughly 98 feet of the centerline of the road on which you are traveling, you can be alerted.

Once again, Mary - WELL DONE!!

Wow, and I would visit River Oaks every year for several years, (Robert's Cutoff and 183) my ex in-laws lived there.. and I never knew about this place.

I was always sent to What-a-Burger... The last time I was there, a In-n'-Out burger had been installed, I think it was by the university on hulen st?

When we were kids, we'd get an In-N-Out burger bumper sticker and modify it a bit.. we'd remove the "b" and the "r" on the bumper sticker.

As it works out, the guy that owns In-N-Out is fairly religious and had puppies about it so first he re-worked the bumper sticker, then if memory serves me, he discontinued them all together.

I was really surprised to find an In-N-Out in Ft. Worth ... oh well .. I'll be going back in a while to see my ex (yeah, we're still civil with each other) and I'll have to try a Brahms.. (SHhhhh... Don't tell my cardiologist as he'd have a whole herd of elephants if he knew I ate a burger! razz)

Thanks John for the kind words.

I do have EPE and I use it to change files from .csv to .gpx. That would have been so much easier to put the file in there. I first printed out the old file. I asked Braums for a list of shops but haven't heard back from them. So I went to the Braums store locator and checked each individual store with my list. If it was there and the information matched I put a check mark. If it wasn't there I wrote it down. If the store was on my paper and not on the store locator I noted this. If the information didn't match I marked this.

After doing this for over 200 stores I opened Google Earth. I typed in the coordinates for each store that was not on the Braums store locator site. Most of them showed closed stores. If it didn't I then went to the street view to make sure the address wasn't off. I did the same for new stores, checking to see if they were there and noting the coordinates. I then checked all the mismatched information. This was a long process. I then spot checked a lot of the coordinates with the other stores to see if the information was correct. Some was a little off.

I did my coordinates to the entrance from the street as you do.

Now that you told me about the way of using EPE I will put the file in EPE andcheck all the coordinates from the ones that I have not checked and see if all are ok.
Thanks, Mary

River Oaks

The one that just closed was on the corner of 183 and Ohio Garden Road. Just down the street from your ex in-laws.

We lived a block off Robert's Cutoff. River Oaks was a great place to grow up.

What is the last name of your ex in-laws?

You will love the hamburgers, but they don't toast the bun like In-n-Out Burger does, both burgers are great to me. The Braums ice cream counter is another favorite. But I try to avoid the extra pounds from it when I have self control. grin

Google Earth not working for me

John

I open Google Earth, then open EPE and put the file in EPE. I then go to Tools, Open in Google Earth, and I get a note that EPE can not find the path to Google Earth. Do I have to set it up or is because that Google Earth stopped supporting?

Thanks

@Mary

I have EPE 5.99 installed.

I opened EPE, then did an open on
Braum's Ice Cream & DairyMA.csv

Once EPE loaded the file, I double clicked on one of the 4 locations showing in the upper left pane. This brings up the "POI Edit" dialog, which shows details about this location and in the upper right section shows it on a map.

Near the top center of the page are two links - "Map" and "Satellite".

When I click on "Satellite", I get Google Earth and buttons to zoom in or out.

That would be Google if your viewing it with ...

Map and Satellite!

If you hit the F9 key or go to "Tools" and then "Open in Google Earth", THis will open up Google Earth BUT...

If you do not have Google Earth Software installed, this will not work.

I found all you said and see the map when I clicked on Satellite but there is a script error that keeps popping up when I am on the "POI Edit" page so I guess I need to update EPE. Thanks

The COW this week RULES

John, I updated my EPE and did as you said. I just fixed two Braums POIs to the drive way and had to stop and tell you how thankful I am. I spend this morning writing down coordinates to the first 2 pages of 7 pages updating the coordinates.
What a time saver you have given my in the knowledge of what EPE will do. Thank you so much. I was dreading typing the coordinates in.

Thanks again and a great choice for COW this week.

EPE

Mary,

You can do this in EPE in a single step. In the frame where the pointer is shown on a map, you can pick it up and drag it to the new location. Then click GRAB and it updates the Lat and Lon to the pointer.

Thanks, that is what I am basically doing now (after a lot of make work) grin . I first do the geocode to get the pointer on the store. A lot of the pointers from the file I took over are a block or two off so if I geocode them it puts them at the correct address. They are mostly on the correct store but sometimes I have go a long way down the street to find the store then I research to see if I have the correct address.

The first time I saved my file in EPE with 4-column .csv it deleted the phone numbers. Now I am saving it in Garmin .csv
format and that seems to keep my file in the correct .csv format.

Thanks Box Car for all your help you are always giving me.

Mary, Some EPE File Saving Methods...

When one saves a file as a CSV, The fields may not be set proper unless you use Garman CSV save. (With EPE, Garman CSV fields are set with the default for the CSV format of 4 Cols).

I use EPE a lot for my Offbeat and I also Export this information in many different formats for other uses. To Create a CSV file to fit your needs you will need to do the following:

Click on Options, Then click on M-Colum CSV Fields. Look at the pull down for each field, go near the bottom of that pull down and you will see options that combine some fields together. (Notice the Separation for each)

These setting will let you export/import CSV files so that they will fall into the proper Fields in EPE. This way, if you want to save it later as a GPX file, It can be saved properly.

This is also good for Creating or Reading CSV properly and placing the information in each correct field.

Lets do a Example,

Lets say you have a CSV file that has 4 Col, they are:

"Longitude","Latitude","POIName","Address,City,State,Zip,Phone"
(note the (,) Comma in the 4th col - they must be there to work properly. You can also use Tabs for this)

You would set the setting as the following:
Col 1 = Longitude
Col 2 = Latitude
Col 3 = POI Name
Col 4 = Address, City, State, PostCode, Phone

This will read the information in the CSV file and then place them in the proper areas in EPE. This would read the 4 col CSV and put the information in the proper places so that you can then save it as a GPX.

You can also use this method to create a Excel file (CSV) and create any of the col as you with.

SO...

If you download a CSV file here, make sure there are commas in the 4th Col between each field you want to break, then check EPE setting, and load the file in, the fields should go to the correct places in EPE!

Showing someone this is easer than trying to type the information.. I will try to explain it more if any one needs it.. maybe even do a Video capture?

Well done.

John

At the end of last summer my

At the end of last summer my family of 4 drove from Long Island to Texas and back. One of the kids' highlights was getting ice cream at Braum's.

Not only was the ice cream top notch, but the serving size you got for far less money back home was much bigger.

New Braum's Location - Tecumseh, OK

I am getting old and if I don't do something daily I forget how. Hopefully I did the new file correctly.

The new Braum's is not on Google Earth but I can see where new construction is. Hopefully the new building will show up on Google Earth soon and I will be able place the marker where it should be.

1217 N. Broadway, Tecumseh, OK

January 31, 2017 Braum's is opening a new location.

It will be open 6 am on the 31st of January 2017.

The Grand Opening is February 6 - 12, 2017

Free Cones for the kids 15 years and under on February 11, 2017 from 1-6 pm.

Updated list available?

Braum's has been expanding like crazy, but the Braum's POI list is dated 2017. Is there an updated list available?

Sorry

I have neglected this list among a lot of other chores.
I do not use my Garmin anymore and forgot about the file.
Mahoney (Bill) worked on the file and sent me the changes and addiions.
I have started work on the file 3 times now. Seems like every time I type something in and proof it I have to fix something. I will try again.
We are fixing to go to Houston again for my husband's clinical trial so I will hopefully finish it when we return.
Thanks to Mahoney for his help and everyone's patients.

76 years old and slowing down

The last two and a half years have taken a toll on my wanting to do things.
I have lost interest in stuff I used to love. We are ok but with my husband's cancer and the pandemic I can see a difference in myself.

I can not make myself set down and work on the Braum's file. I have tried a couple of times but my brain just doesn't seem to process the numbers like it used to.

Is there anyone interested in taking over the care of this file?
I would appreciate anyone who has the time and energy for this file.

Thank you all,
Mary
