POWER MOUNT

Which is better the power mount or the magnetic power mount.

Matter of opinion.

It is a matter of opinion, but I love the magnetic mount on my nuvi 3597LMTHD. I also have a 755T and 855 which use the snap in powered mounts, and they are good too, but for me the magnetic mount can't be beat for convenience. I even bought a second one for my pickup, so I can use my 3597 in both my car and truck without having to move the mount.

The magnetic mount also works well at destroying motel room keys and credit cards smile. Don't put your magnetic mounted nuvi and motel room key in the same pocket smile

POWER MOUNT

Does the Magnetic Mount have a speaker?

Depends on device.

It does on the 3597, which does greatly improve the volume and quality of the sound. AFAIK, the new DriveLuxe 50 mount does not have a speaker.

POWER MOUNT

I wanted a mount with the speaker with it.

Note that none of the new Garmin Drive devices have a speaker in the mount and only one of the Drives has a powered magnetic mount. The only models with a powered mount and speaker in the mount are the slightly older 34XX, 35XX and the 37XX series devices.

Also good at destroying thumbdrives and lots of other stuff. Probably not good around your smart phone either.

POWER MOUNT

How is the sound quality on the speaker that doesn't have a power mount. I wear hearing aids, so the sound quality is important to me.

I've never seen the magnetic mounts, I have a 2460, and a couple Zumo's, that have the snap in kind of power mount, my newer 2689 has a mini USB plug providing power, I must say I prefer the snap in type over the plug, which seems to be a possible weak spot in the system, physically.

I kind of like having my 2699 have a USB plug providing power. It allows the passenger to take the 2699 off its stand and put in locations without worrying about using up battery power. We shall see if it is a weak spot in the physical design.

I use mine everyday at work, even days I know I won't need it I set it up, just in case. I take it down every afternoon and put it in my work bag. I can't leave it in the truck, it might not be there in the morning. I'm very conscious of pulling the plug out correctly, I haven't had it for a full year yet and it feels like the plug is getting a tad loose.

Powered Mount

Have a 3590LMT which uses a powered mount. I also use a vent clip the mount attaches to that I find very useful - no suction cup to worry about.

I prefer the Magnetic mount

For convenience, I prefer the magnetic mounts. They self center and aid in quickly mounting if you have to do so while driving.
