In danger of losing your windmill?
Maybe you can share the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you used it to seek out special places to go (like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.).
Anything to keep your windmill alive.
This thread will be closed on the last day of the month and a new one will be opened.

Just returned from Laconia bike week. Used the Harley GPS for trips all around northern New Hampshire. It's very tedious but it does work.

Quick trip....
....out to Ormond Beach for some more motorcycle parts. The problem with buying a new Harley is that it's just a starting point.. half the fun is "personalizing" them (and we just bought TWO!!! ). Oh well...you can't take it with you

and we head out for 2 weeks of travel in the Southwest. Probably not the best time due to the record setting heat, but the schedule is the schedule. Will be traveling early in the morning to beat some of the heat. Hope AC and vehicle hold up!

Took a trip to visit my wife 96 year old aunt last week. Big mistake on my part was when we got into a big traffic jam on the interstate I exited to find another route. Went the wrong way getting off and ended up on Blue Ridge Parkway and added an extra 1 hour to the trip. Nice drive.
My Last Trip was....
Washington, DC to Memphis, TN.

Canada Tour
My Garmin GPS nuvi2460 and nuvi3580 started malfunctioning on a recent trip to Canada. I had updated the maps to 2017.20 and added new waypoints. The mileage to next turn was no longer visible in upper left corner of screen, the name of the next turn was not present, and the voice alerts to next turn stopped working. This was a serious setback and I am in the process of troubleshooting both units. I started by removing all User Data and then reinstalled the maps. I then added a few waypoints and will check the units out while on the road. I will follow up and report back after the testing is completed.

Easy Trip
Just did a round trip Myrtle Beach to DC and back. Smooth sailing all the way when avoiding weekends. Up on Thursday and back on Tuesday. Going up went around Richmond (1PM)and coming back went through Richmond (7AM). Far less hectic taking the bypass but that road will put you to sleep really quickly not to mention radar cars everywhere.

Ham Radio Field Day
The last full weekend in June is Field Day for ham radio operators in the U.S.
Field Day is an exercise in setting up your gear at some place other than your home and contacting other hams.
For many years I've been going up to a friend's place in California's Gold Country for Field Day. Many years -- like over two decades? I go up with my best friend (from middle school) who is also a ham. For the last decade, my son has been joining us.
We'll head up again Thursday, using the same GPS markers we've been using for a long, long time.
I expect this weekend will be warm... Like probably well over 100 F during the day...
But I'm looking forward to it, as I look forward to it each year.
(And if you're a ham, listen for us calling AE6FD, 2B SJV!)

Looking forward to Field Day this year--my first go at it with an Amateur Extra. (Yes, my last GPS trip was getting the upgrade to the ticket :3) It'll be pleasantly warm here Saturday, possibly stormy enough to emulate full Field Day emergency prep conditions on Sunday...

My 3,500 Mile Trip
I returned recently from a 3,500 mile trip.
The first leg of my trip started from Dallas, Texas and went northeast on I-30 through Arkansas to Little Rock where I got on I-40 and went east through Tennessee and North Carolina, with stops in Nashville, TN, Winston-Salem, NC and Raleigh/Durham, NC Airport and then on to the destination of Emerald Isle, NC on the coast. Six days were spent at the ultimate destination of Emerald Isle, NC. The second (or return) leg of the trip started at Emerald Isle, NC with stops from I-40 in Chapel Hill, NC, Raleigh/Durham, NC Airport, Winston-Salem, NC, Asheville, NC and Nashville, TN. Then I traveled south on I-65 to Montgomery, AL, then back north on I-65 again to reach I-20, and then west on I-20 through Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and back home to Dallas, Texas. The trip was 12 days long with numerous stops at rest areas, restaurants for traveling meals, gas and various motels along the way. Most of the trip was two adults (driver and passenger), but from the RDU Airport east to the coast and then back to the RDU Airport there were four adults and a child.
I used both the car's built-in navigation system as well as the old standby Garmin Nüvi. I used the Garmin GPS primarily for the Cracker Barrel POI file (10,560' TourGuide) I have loaded in it. But, I also like seeing my ground speed on the Garmin that is shown alongside the posted speed limit - something the car's navigation doesn't provide. I have to admit that I used the car's navigation system for everything else - hotels, restaurants, ice cream, local activities and attractions, etc.
We had a ton of family fun with great weather and wonderful food at the beach. Plus, we had fun visiting with friends on both legs of our trip.
