Keeping The Windmill Alive - Your Last Trip? – June 2016

In danger of losing your windmill?

Maybe you can share the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you used it to seek out special places to go (like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.).

Anything to keep your windmill alive.

This thread will be closed on the last day of the month and a new one will be opened.

About to head out without the computer up US 101 to Oregon

Well, since the computer won't be with me, but the Nav system will, we're about to head up US 101 to Willets. Then further north until we get to Portland OR. Technically, my car has Nav, but those maps never get updated, or have POIs, so I also use my personal Nav system, and Google Maps in addition to the car's system.
Ah, these are the good old days. grin

a few weeks ago we did a dry run to Hospital in Ashville in my car, and did a save of the parking lot co-ordinates (private area, off the roadway) that patients were to use.
I saved the co-ordinates in the 2689LMT, and then manually entered the co-ordinates into the Nuvi 660, so either car could be used.
Day of operation, we used wife's car and 660 to get there in middle of night. She used it each day to get to Hospital and home again.
All worked good... I'm on the mend...

This was the first time I've ever saved a location based upon co-ordinates, and then manually entered co-ordinates into a different model Garmin... At the time I did so, I didn't even know if it would work.... but it showed the same off road area on both... which is good, because when we arrived it was totally dark there...

I have saved coordinates of parking lots of doctors and hospitals before. It help to go to the parking lot and not the office or hospital. No hunting for the parking lot the next time we go.
Hope you are still healing great.

long trip

One and a half week 3133 miles round trip to NE Pennsylvania and Northern NJ. Used the Garmin 2460 on the way up, something went wrong with the cable and had to finish the trip using the Highlander Entune Navigation, it was a little awkward at first but once I got the hang of it the it performed flawlessly, between that and the HD Radio traffic and weather map made for a safe and pleasurable trip

Another Field Day

Last full weekend of June is Amateur Radio Field Day, where we set up and use our gear some place other than home to practice for emergency situations.

I think this was our 25th year in the same location, a friend's place up in California's Gold Country.

It also marked the 10th year my son joined us as a ham radio operator.

And my Nuvi got us there and back once again.

We had fun -- we ate, we slept, we played on the radio (after doing battle with Murphy).

Now we wait for another year to do it again!

Canada Trip Issues

My Nuvi 2460 LMT and Nuvi 3580 GPS units started to present erroneous or incomplete information during a recent trip from the USA through several Canadian cities. This after updating Maps and adding new waypoints using Basecamp before starting out.

After returning to the USA I deleted all User Data (waypoints and routes) and reinstalled the latest Maps. Then I recovered the waypoints and routes from Basecamp onto the memory cards.

Testing the units reveals that they are now working properly.

Problems encountered included missing time/distance to next turn, name of next road, and voice alerts to turns, etc.

This is the first time these problems occurred in years of using these units.

Anyone else have any similar problems?

Long weekend

...for us in Canada smile

New Goldsboro Bypass.

I think I am up to date 2017.20. I looked at a possible route from VA to Kinston, looks as if you would get routed down I785 to US70 around the North of Goldsboro, the old "bypass". According to the trip log from my 3597 the new road intersects with I785 at the NC44 junction, most of it is in open country and does not make use of many existing roads.
