The frustrating thing about garmin

This is like Google 9, Garmin 0

Map updated in March 2016.

Garmin could not find the Magic Kingdom in Orlando.

Google maps just click and go. But it does drain the phones battery...

My hunch is there is some "other" address to use. Just like Garmin never likes US State Route 1 etc

Really?

I was in the US for two weeks over the Easter period, and included was four nights in Orlando. My GPS found magic kingdom and blizzard beach without issue smile

Garmin can't find the twilight zone

Artificial intelligence is so great! Google Maps found the Twilight Zone! I never thought a GPS could work in the Twilight Zone!

How

My Garmin can find Disney World, the Magic Kingdom, Epcot Center, etc with no issues. How were you searching for it?

I know in California there's "DisneyLand" and in Florida there's "DisneyWorld".

What does the GPS respond with when you try to find the "Magic Kingdom?"

Is it somewhere in Saudi Arabia?

Did you happen to try,
"The Happiest Place On Earth"?

I tried "The Happiest Place on Earth" on my 2797 and it sent me to the deck in my back yard. grin grin

I guess that was better than the local pub.

Illiterate? Write for free help.

A Garmin device doesn't quite have the resourses that Google has

to handle DisneyLand vs Disney Land or DisneyWorld vs Disney World. But hasn't this been hashed out here already??

Garmin Frustration

Mine goes kind of whacky sometime too and can't find something that one would expect to be a definite POI.

this is the address from google

which Garmin with the march 2016 could not find, and which google maps routed to instantly.

verified it on mickeytown

http://www.mickeytown.com/gps-address-for-walt-disney-world-...

Worked

straight away on mine just entering 1180 Seven Seas Drive but note it's in Orlando not Lake Buena Vista so that could be the issue. So if you search in Lake Buena Vista your nuvi won't find it.

As usual though less is often more. Do a search all and just enter the street address ... and up it pops smile

Note also searching the POI database for Magic Kingdom etc brings it up straight away.

On my 3760 if you didn't get the city correct, it would have a hard time finding addresses and POIs. You could alleviate this somewhat by changing your search parameters to "near" a city, but I think that only worked for POIs and not addresses.

I much prefer my 3597 which automatically searches for any address matching, no matter the city.

must be the case

I am willing to bet you are 100% correct!

But when you are a traveler to somewhere that you don't live, imho it would make sense that something you "google" as a GPS address, should work on the Garmin....my .02.

On this trip to Florida, google maps was worth its weight in gold. I constantly had both up for nearly 7 days to compare.

Avoided a 1 hour delay (per google, maybe it was more based on the below) on the I-4 due to a bus fire. The 2350LMT was solid green. There were 3 of us who left together from north of Daytona to Tampa. My buddy's wife who has a brand new Garmin arrived 90 min. late and got stuck when all 3 lanes were stopped westbound (later eastbound as well beyond the accident).

google offered an alternate route that I needed to "accept." It had us exit, and get back on beyond the issue.

I think it's been mentioned, and I agree. It's as if waze and google maps are "privy" to real time info, which Garmin is not. And when it's time we're talking about, esp. on vacation, it's valuable (think about Disney being ~ $170/day per person and it gets hectic)

.

I agree that Garmin traffic is very hit or miss, with an accuracy of less than 50% while Google/Waze/Inrix are spot-on 95% of the time. But, the latter require a cell signal and use up data.

IMHO, Garmin traffic is just not reliable.

True

On current nuvis you don't need to input a city wink

Inputting address

I have an ancient Nuvi 855 and a Nuvi 2797 and in both cases I have to enter the country/state/province/city.

Now on a different tack, just picked up an almost new (8,000km-5,000miles) 2015 VW Passat TDI with the RNS 510 navigation unit.
It apparently is a Garmin based unit.
Where I picked the car up was 180km - 112miles from home and I thought I'd let it guide me home. I entered the destination house number and street and the RSN 510 knew exactly what city I live in.

Wrong

You don't you know on the 2797 wink

Do a Where to, address. Enter the State then tap Search all.

Now you can simply enter an address and you'll get a list of matching addresses ...

I should have added that it DID find Disney World.....

...

My Garmin can find Walt Disney World. Unfortunately, both phone maps and Garmin maps often use circuitous routing when you are nearby. For example, if a business is on a side street, instead of directing you to the side street, often I am routed beyond the turn, then U-turned back around (sometimes from a point far away) into a driveway. With long signal times and traffic, this can add an extra 5-10 minutes that is unnecessary if you don't scrutinize the route first.

U-turn happy

I also have noticed this even on main roads. For any business on the left side of the road, my Garmin usually always wants me to pass it and then make a U-turn. This happens even when the store or shopping area has a red-lighted turn-in.
