Red Light alert going off on the freeway

on the POI red light camera file, there are a couple of red light alerts that go off when I am on the 22 eastbound freeway (around Harbor) that go off. I think the coordinates are messed up.

How can I collect the data so that Miss POI can correct this? How do I get the coordinates? Red light camera alerts shouldnt be going off in the middle of the freeway.

Let me how to help.

Send me a note through the contact link to the right and we can problem solve it together. If there is a road with a red light intersection next to the freeway that might be within the alert range. I have seen this happen before.

Miss Poi

Check your GPS alert radius

I think the default alert radius is 800 feet so it is very likely as Miss POI said that you were near a service road intersection camera.

Jeff

ok, I forgot exactly where

ok, I forgot exactly where it was so I will drive on the frway again and report later

I've seen this too

On a recent trip from Tx to NY, I was surprised when the red light camera alert went off while cruising down I 40 in Tenn. Then the same thing happened on the way back.

Then driving thru Dallas the same thing happened.

Not a big issue really, the lat and long are set to the middle of the intersection. It just so happens that sometimes, an interstate hwy goes over or under that intersection near the middle. The alert always brings a smile, whether going across, over or under the intersection.

Not Uncommon

This is quite common, since the highway often goes over surface street intersections. In Chicago on I-90 it always goes off near the Addison St. exit.

If you were being routed by the GPS I don't think it would go off. My guess is you were in "view map" mode.

Red Light alert going off on the freeway

My c340 goes off everytime I am on the Brooklyn Queens Xpressway. 3rd Ave. is below and there is a red light camera just below and it picks it up.

Overpasses will do it

Same thing happens to me in Knoxville. There are a couple of places on I-640 going around Knoxville where there are RL cameras at the end of the ramps coming and going off the interstate.

It always seems a little weird when the Zumo is barking at me with a warning as I'm crusing along. smile

Yep

I40 in Knoxville there is a red light camera on the freeway offramp. I heard the alert and looked up and saw the camera.

Question on a previous post in this thread... If I was routing and not in view map mode would it only alert when I was on the road with the camera? I thought it was proximity only?

Proximity Alert on route

One of the advantages/disadvantages of the alerts is that they work only on the route. There have been numerous postings that alerts are not going off when the setting is, for example, a store in a parking lot that is far enough off of the route not to sound.

Alerts on Routes

I noticed that if the point is on a sideroad that is accessable via a northbound lane, but not a southbound lane the alert only goes off when I am travelling north.

This makes perfect sense.

A problem I am having is I have an alert for the southbound side of US301, a divided highway, prior to the toll plaza for the Harry Nice Bridge. No matter where I place the point it insists on alerting me northbound also, which I do not want since there is no toll plaza or speed zone there.

Yeah, it happens southbound

Yeah, it happens southbound on the Van Wyck Expy in NY at Rockaway Blvd.
