Garmin quality and feature differences.

Well, I am getting the urge to upgrade again.

What I can't figure is the differences between the "two-digit" Nuvis and the four.

Is one a better quality of the the other?

I am seriously considering going to 6" or 7". I am not sure at that point the one inch will matter, since I am coming from a 5".

Why the two "brands" within Garmin?

(I know I could go to Garmin or somewhere and do those comparisons, but those are sales pitches. I am hoping some folks have been on both sides of the product.)

A 1" increase in size between a 5" and a 6" screen is a 20% increase and a 40% increase for the 7". Both those increased sizes will certainly "matter" but do you have space for them on your window, dashboard, etc.

Nuvi 350, 760, 1695LM, 3790LMT, 2460LMT, 3597LMTHD, DriveLuxe 50LMTHD, DriveSmart 61, Garmin Drive 52, Garmin Backup Camera 40 and TomTom XXL540s.

Base Models

The 2 digit Nuvi's are generally less expensive entry level models, usually less than $200. The 4 digit models are more advanced with additional features and consequently cost more $$.

It all depends on how you use your GPS as to which is better.

Bigger is Better

I went from the 5" Nuvi 660 to the Nuvi 2699. OMG what a difference in screen viewing and features. I love my new 2699. Also I travel a lot and rent a lot of cars. I have never had problems with the screen being too big for the dash. Now that may be a concern if you drive a very small car.

Actually the nuvi 660 had a 4.3" screen, not 5", so going from that to the 6" screen of the 2699 is definitely a big step up ... about 75% more screen space. You also went from 480 X 272 pixels to 800 X 480, and from a 2006 device to a 2014.

It is definitely a huge upgrade. Enjoy your new nuvi!

Just the guy I am looking for.
I have the dash space on a Camry.

Sooooo...is the 7" a substantial gain over the 6". Ammenities aside, just glancing up and seeing something. Is one sharper or have moe info showing.

If they went back to letting us crowd the screen with 8-10 pieces of info, the 7" would be a no brainer.
