Seems they always find something else wrong that will cost big $$$ to fix.
Like bringing a car in for an oil change and they find other "recommended" maintenance.

Hello everyone.

Good to be home
Back from a 2300 mile trip to Florida. The GPS worked great. Although I did find a new development near Naples that didn't have it's streets in the GPS yet.

Survived the dentist, surprise no cavities.
Look about the same as six months ago. Did tell me to buy a more expensive elec toothbrush, and not the real cheap ones.

Radar detectors and new car systems...
Some electronics hard-wired into my car: amateur radio transceiver, GPS (Nuvi and more), and Valentine One radar (and laser) detector. I feel naked without them.
Newer cars are using K-band radar for collision avoidance, lane change whatever, and to make my life difficult. I'm on the freeway and my radar detector pegs on K-band from behind (the Valentine tells you where the threat is, in front, behind, or to the side) and I start looking for a newer Audi zooming up from behind. Yup, there it is, paper plates still.
Valentine has an update to reduce the irritation cause by these things (Dodge is another one using K-band). But that update requires me to send in my Valentine One and be without it for a week or more. I'd rather drive without pants on. (We've all had that dream, right?)
Valentine does have a programming option to disable K-band alerts (on the programming page, it's one of those items with a drawing of a screw beside it, as in, if you do this you might be screwing yourself). LEO in this area doesn't use K-band for speed.
(As an aside, the locals have stepped up their game -- at lunch this week I parked next to a pair of LEO motorcycles. Each had a pretty new Stalker XS LIDAR gun.)
I'll probably punch out K for a while, and send the thing in to Valentine when I go on vacation.
Or learn to live with it and just hit the mute button more often. Those of us that drive with radar detectors (and especially those of us who drive with good ones) learn to live with X-band and K-band door openers and motion detector systems in stores, K-band roadside speed signs (many of those are going to Ka-band, where a lot of LEO speed radar still lives), and so on.
The price of progress.

Time flies when you're having fun. It also flies when you're old. I've got both going for me.
Have a great week end and, please, take care of each other.
