Garmin Map PILOT

Anyone familiar with downloading and successfully accessing POIs onto a Garmin Map PILOT SD Card sold by Mercedes Benz? I am relatively new to this cooperative effort and have not been able to find much useful information online. Thanks!

I don't know

I don't know but will refresh this post so someone who didn't see it may see it now.

Tell us about the SD card

Is the SD card used for the map, or map updates?

What does Mercedes say the SD card is used for?

Was the SD card original equipment in the car or added later?

Is the SD card inserted in the front of the dash or is it hidden under the dash and inaccessible?

I have the Mercedes Benz Map

I have the Mercedes Benz Map pilot also and was wondering the same thing. I recently downloaded the red light camera and rest area POIs and used Garmin POI loader to convert the .csv files to .gpi files and just copied them to the POI folder on the SD Card. I have no idea if they work or not because I have not been through an area that has either red light camera or rest areas.

I used the Garmin POI Loader to convert the files from .csv to .gpi and load them to my Garmin nevi 2557 GPS, and then looked at the POI folder on the GPS and saw the .gpi files there, but I don't know if Garmin POI Loader just converts the .CSV files and copies them to the POI folder, or if there are other steps accomplished during the process. If nothing else if done to the GPS files other than just adding the .gpi files to the POI folder, then I would think they should work. Can anyone clarify?

Also, for dobs108, The Garmin Map pilot SD Card is sold specifically for Mercedes Benz. There is a card slot built into the entertainment system that is specifically configured for the Garmin Map Pilot SD Card. Once inserted, the SD card is essentially married to the vehicle and the SD card won't work in any other Mercedes. The system works great and fully integrates with the entertainment system, providing Garmin GPS navigation as an option for vehicles that don't have the expensive factory nav. The program runs from the SD card, so it must be inserted in order to work.

It seems that it should work with the POI files here, but I have not had an opportunity to test the files I just uploaded today.

Update: I was able to test the RLC POI file on my MB Map Pilot today. It worked great, it lowers the volume of the radio and sounds an audible ding along with displaying a red banner across the top of the screen with a warning. The only problem is the warning is written in Chinese! I sent an e-mail to Garmin and am waiting to hear back...
