I have made an mp3 & wav file that sounds correct, I'll let Rythm Tip know.

Have you tried the AT&T site, http://www.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php , for TTS? It is smart enough to correctly pronounce "bass fiddle" and "Bass Pro Shop."

I couldn't figure out why you had different results than me, so I played with it for awhile. Turns out, Crystal pronounces "Bass Pro Shop" incorrectly, but "bass pro shop" is pronounced correctly. I'm not even sure AT&T understand this, because on their FAQ page they have a perfect opportunity to explain when they say:
"While general performance can be quite good, some decisions are intrinsically hard to make without some level of understanding. For example, the word 'bass' in the phrases 'bass drum' or 'bass boat'."

I wish they would list the tricks, but the program is apparently able to make decisions on some pronunciation based on context. "Tear" and "Tear paper" are pronounced differently. Interesting . . .

Interesting....I just altered the Bass to Bas to get it to work. But in future I'll try both, thanks smile

Custom POI Alert Sounds

I receive the default beep when approaching a red light camera after installing custom wav file.

Nuvi 200
POILoaderforWindows_253
sox14.2.0.

POI Loader says everything loaded fine.
File names are identical
Audio file is 800kb .wav

Even though I installed custom audio files, do I need to change the proximity points to custom POI's in the Nuvi manually?

Is there a way to test for success without going out each time and hunting down a red light camera?

Many thanks,
Robert

If I remember correctly, the version of sox.exe you have won't work. You can get the known working version here:

arrow http://www.poi-factory.com/node/16728

If your Nuvi 200 has Simulation mode (Settings>System>Simulator) and I believe it does, then yes, you can test custom POIs, their icons and the audible alerts from the comfort of your easy chair.

If you are using the red light file from POI Factory, all you have to do is run POI Loader in Manual (not Express) Mode. By default, it is setup to automatically load with a 1/4 mile poximity alert.

Sound Library

Over the years I have been collecting tens of thousands of sounds and I can edit them to fit however they may be needed. so you what sounds might help enhance the POI-Factory library. Anyone with ideas let me know I can supply both MP3 & WAV files.
These sounds can be used where a voice is not needed to identify a POI location but rather just a sound.

If you would like a particular sound inserted into a voice file just let me know.

New POI sounds and Knowing they are New

Miss POI,
Is it possible to flag new files with the new Marker, so the new files don't get lost in the mix, and everyone gets to at least have a listen?

I was looking for a Drupal Module to send to Jon for this purpose, but couldn't figure out what it's called to search for it.

Funny/Cute Sounds

BobDee - are you still taking requests for sound clips? If so, would it be possible for you to create a bunch of funny and cute sounds.

My nieces will be visiting in a few weeks and I was thinking it would be fun to attach some cute sound clips to various POIs. So as we're driving they'll randomly hear funny sounds.

BobDee.Thanks for the sounds

BobDee.Thanks for the sounds I requested. That redlightskid wav alert sure puts some action in the redlight file.

I have finished converting the complete MP3 library for those of you that need them. If you are using SOX.exe on on your GPS, you can now select any file from the complete Matching WAV library.

The Files below Have been created with spoken words and Embellished sounds. they are available in both MP3 & WAV formats, if one format description is embellished so is the other.

These sounds have been asked for by other community members, or for my own needs. If you have a specific POI sound you would like, just drop me a message through my contact button.

Yes but you will need to use

Yes but you will need to use wav files for the 255.It will not play mp3's.You have to install a sox.exe file in your Garmin folder on your computer for it to work.

a.Download the latest PoiLoader file at http://www8.garmin.com/products/poiloader/ .
b. Download Sox Exe at http://rapidshare.com:80/files/139638423/sox.zip .
c. After un-zipping Sox Exe file place it in your Garmin folder where the PoiLoader exe file is located on the computer.
d. The wav file for alerts will be named the same as the CSV or GPX file except for the extensions.
e. You can make your own wav files by going to http://www.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php and typing in what you want it to say or use a program to convert mp3 files to wav. When using the conversion it must be saved as PCM, 44.100 kHZ., 16 bit, Mono. Wav files are also on site for download.
Select manual mode on poiloader to set speed or distance for alert.

How to get sounds downloaded

OK, new to this POI info. I see several POI sounds I'd like, but how do you upload them. All I've been able to do is to play them. I missed it somewhere! I didn't exactly find my answer in FAQ. Sorry if you've answered this 100 times or more!

Right click on it and depending on the OS/browser you should be given an opportunity to "download as" or "save as".

Nuvi 255w sound files & POI bmp. files

I have read all directions and used the POI loader, and I still cannot get the Red light camera sound file to work, I dont have an mp3 player on this unit, so I download the wave file format instead, but this does not work either, does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the sound files to work the Red light camera POI. I am also having the same problems with the POI bmp. files.

Thanks

.

For the sounds, did you follow the instructions for downloading the SOX.EXE program and placing it in your the folder with the POI Loader program?

For both issues, did you make double (and triple) sure that the files are named identical to the POI file and that you do not have double file extensions?

Did you notice that the sound file and the bmp file must have the same (identical) names, except for the extension.

A Very Pleasant Alert Sound

For Rest Area alerts I use the famous and maybe not so well known anymore, the NBC radio station break tones. This is one of the original tuning forks generated tones and has very rich sounding harmonics when heard through an FM receiver. I found this mp3 file on a old time radio historical site and they offered it for personal use. If anyone is interested, send me your E-Mail address.

Garmin 265WT

I downloaded the Burger King POI package with the MP3 sound alert and gave them all the same name (BK), put them in the POI folder on my computer, and uploaded them to my Garmin 265WT with the Garmin POI uploader software. The POI file and the BMP icon work fine and ID Burger King! Yea!

The MP3 sound alert, however, does not work. Am I doing something wrong on is 265WT not configured for the MP3 alert. If I play the MP3 on the computer it does play fine.

.

That unit doesn't have the capability to play MP3s.
https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=13430#specsTab

You can get alerts to work with WAV files using SOX.EXE. (If you search the forum for that term, you will find instructions.)

Note also, that in order to get alerted, you must SET an alert when you load the POIs. Also, the POI location must be along the road on which you are traveling, and the POI location must be within 50 feet or so of the road.

mp3 player

I have a nuvi 255wt. I have not been able to over ride the installed alert with an mp3 file. Is the 255wt capable of accepting new alert sounds?
Thanks, Bob
