Keeping The Windmill Alive - Your Last Trip? – November 2015

In danger of losing your windmill?

Maybe you can share the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you used it to seek out special places to go (like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.).

Anything to keep your windmill alive.

This thread will be closed on the last day of the month and a new one will be opened.

Austin

to Waco..so many great POI's to check out! mrgreen

Looked

I looked at my previous week's calendar to see if I had gone anywhere interesting.

Nope. Just ordinary commute to work, ordinary minor groceries over the weekend, and a quick trip to a local archery range.

I need to get a life.

I tried to follow what you had said, instead of the GPS, which tried to take me in some weird section through LA,had to go to Beaumont first for orientation, then took TX-71, I-35 North, but I'm further north than Austin now, 281 north..my GPS is still messed up..have to call Garmin.. confused

An Exciting Trip From Alva, OK to Guymon, OK

My last trip? A veritable journey of discovery from Alva, OK to Guymon, OK. Three hours of absolute nothingness.

Busy

I have not been on here in a while. My firm is closing at the end of the year and finding time to just read posts and comment on Internet forums is lacking. In January I may very well have time!

The last serious trip I took with the GPS, more than 25 miles, was 2 years ago. That was my yearly trip from Long Island to the GTA and back again. Was doing it religiously since 2001 and got to experience all the glory of NY-17 reconstruction to I-86. Unfortunately traffic information was lacking on my GPS due to the cities of Binghamton and Buffalo being the only ones with RDS traffic support along my trip (outside of the NYC area). Areas like Corning, NY and Painted Post, NY had heavy construction traffic but no RDS support. These days with Waze it is easier to find traffic problems.

Florida

Back from Florida. Windy! Had a great room with a view of the surf but didn't spend as much time on the beach as we expected to do as the wind was a bit much. It's soooooooooooo good to be home. Now I don't need the GPS to get around.

You are coming out of the Austin area, you could take US 79 to Hearne, US 190 to I-45, south to Huntsville and then US 190 and LA 28 to Alexandria, LA. From there to Natchez, MS. It's all good road (we did something similar about 5 years ago). From Natchez you can follow your own route to your home base in FL. Natchez is a great spot to explore for the history as it was the terminus for the famous Natchez Trace and is the southern end of the Natchez Trace Parkway which is an absolutely glorious drive to Nashville.
