That #%!%^(! Garmin Express!

On a road trip to Pennsylvania, Garmin Express came on- NOT ON MY COMPUTER but on my nuvi 40. The GPS wouldn't work right because of Garmin Express. I deleted Garmin Express on the computer, but I doubt that does naything. What should I do?

I think

I think we need more of a complete explanation of what happened to your Nuvi before we can help you figure out what is going on. AFAIK there is no possible way for the Nuvi to run a computer software program and Garmin Express is just a computer software program. So, again, AFAIK Garmin Express could not have just"come on" while you were using your GPS, if it wasn't attached to your computer.

It would also help to know what you mean by "The GPS wouldn't work right because of Garmin Express." What wasn't it doing right? Why do you thing GE was the cause of whatever the Nuvi wasn't doing right, etc.

Boot Freeze?

The words "Garmin Express" appear on screen briefly during normal boot up on many Garmin GPS devices. It is possible your unit is freezing at this point and not booting up completely.

I would try a hard reset and make sure you are using the power cord that came with the GPS.

As T923347 suggests, more information on the problem would be helpful in diagnosing the issue.

Firmware?

In case it turns out to be a corrupt firmware update causing a failure to boot fully, from what I've found the last update for the nuvi 40 was Aug 14, 2014.

If the OP's problem started just after a map/firmware update, and if the update was the first done after 8/14/14, then a corrupt update due to file download errors, disconnect of computer/nuvi interface while writing files, etc. could be an issue.

In addition to all the requests for additional info already, it'd be good to know how soon this occurred after a nuvi update, and when the previous update was done (pre or post Aug 2014).

I learn so much here. I don't ever remember seeing the words Garmin Express pop up on a nuvi during boot but it's worth remembering. Thanks.

I have gotten the Garmin Express message several times. It eventually stops coming up after a few boot ups . Once you reboot do you still have a problem? As suggested a hard reset may help if the problem continues. Make sure you do a backup of the gps. You will lose your favorites.

What next?

It sounds as bad joke. Especially with firmware update. Can Garmin be hold responsible if their own program "bricks" you device? Especially one out of warranty.

I'd follow up with Garmin

They might help even if it's out of warranty if their software caused the problem .

Wait For OP To Reply

Let's not jump to conclusions until there are more substantial facts of exactly what the GPS's behavior is and what changes were made to behave that way. We're only speculating at this juncture.

What does surprise me is that member charlesd45's states
"I have gotten the Garmin Express message several times."

I've never heard of this, but I'm certain it has happened to him, I just can figure out how it is able to display on the Nuvi.

Garmin express on nuvi.

muell9k is right and we need more information from the OP before we can understand the problem. I read a post in another forum where a user was calling the communication mode screen you see when you connect your device to the computer Garmin Express (image of GPS connected to computer). I suppose this makes some sense as that is the screen you see on your device when you run Garmin Express. And we have seen cases where this screen can pop up during normal navigation because of a power adapter or USB port problem.

In any case we need to get some clarification before we can offer any meaningful help.

The few times I have seen the Garmin Express message is after boot up of the GPS. It shows right before the agree screen for a very short time.If I remember correctly it will not show up on the next reboot.

Never seen it!

I have never seen anything that includes the word "Express" on either my 765 or 2595 during a boot up.

GE message on bootup

I have seen a reminder once or twice during bootup that a new map may be available, and to check via GE. This was just a reminder that popped up during bootup on my 65LM. I tapped OK and it continued to boot up. That might be what he is seeing.

same here

Still Curious .....

I wonder if the OP will ever reply .... It simply looks like someone trolling our site.

My 2 cents ...... GE message has never appeared on my Nuvi. I still maintain that most problems encountered when using GE can be traced back to a poorly maintained PC and inexperienced users.

It's just easier to blame something/someone else .....
