Multiple Maps on RV 760

I had previously owned a 1490LMT but recently purchased a RV 760LMT for traveling in an RV. In the past, when I performed a map update, I would retain the previous map so if I had issues then I just select the previous map on the device. This was easy with the 1490 as I would change the three files (*.img, *.gma, *.unl) to something like "gmapsupp" and then install the new maps. I would then have 6 files with each set of three with different names on the SD card of the 1490. Both file sets will show in the map info on the device and I can select the one that I want to use.

I tried doing with the RV 760 but only the latest map update is showing as being selected on the device. I did the following:

I copied the three "gmapprom" files from the .System folder on the device to a folder named \Map on the SD card. I also copied the JCV file from the .System\JCV directory to a directory named \Garmin\JCV on the SD card. I changed the name of the files to "gmapsupp" and removed the SD card. I then updated the device (to 2016.10) and reinserted the SD card. I expected to see both the 2015.40 and 2016.10 in MyMaps on the device but only see the 2016.10 map.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong and send me in the right direction? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please Help If You Can

I did not receive any replies to my post and am still seeking an answer.

I did some more playing with the 2015.40 files. When I put them into the \Garmin folder on the SD card and bring up Garmin MapInstall it shows me that 2015.40 (and 2016.10) is installed on my RV 760. Likewise, Garmin Basecamp will show 2015.40 installed. I tried to use MapInstall to install 2015.40 from my computer directly to the SD card. It will allow me to do so but I receive and error when I insert the card that tells me that it could not unlock new maps. This make some sense to me in that these maps were installed to my computer during my Nuvi 1490 update and were, therefore, never associated with the RV 760.

What do I need to do to get the previous maps to show up in MyMaps on the device? Is there a way to download previous maps for which I was eligible from Garmin?

My experience

My experience with my nuvi's is that I have never been able to get multiple versions of the CN NA maps to show simultaneously in MapInfo, so it was not possible to be able to select/unselect the specific version you wanted to use. The nuvi always seemed to load the newest map whether it was on SD or internal memory. The only way I was able to accomplish a version selection was to put the older map in internal memory and the newer map on SD. Then I could remove the SD to bring up the older map.

That said, I have read posts of others that talk about getting two different versions of the map to show up in Map Info. I don't know if this behavior is model specific or if there is some other trick that causes it to work. For me, I have never been able to make it work.

This information is good as it at least lets me know that my device is probably not defective. With my 1490, I can have as many old maps that my SD card will accommodate and they will show for selection in the Map Info area. Your information gives me some more things to try but I do believe the behavior to be device specific as you have suggested.

It would be nice if Garmin would give you the option to retain your previous map data if storage space allowed rather than just writing over it. I like to retain access to the previous stable map update in case of problems with the new one. Their maps have shown to be pretty stable lately and I have not reverted to an old map on my 1490 in several years. The RV 760 is still new to me and I am learning. I am impressed with many of the device's features so far.

Thanks again for your help.

If anyone else has some experience it would be appreciated.
