I Updated My Garmin SP 2720 With 2016.10 and now it won't turn back on the gps just keeps rebooting the red line bar at the bottom of the screen loads half way then starts over and over anyone have idea whats wrong
It's possible you have a weak battery preventing the Nuvi from booting. Try plugging it into your vehicle and see if it boots up.
If it does leave it in the vehicle to charge or connect to a wall charger.
It sounds like a corrupted map file to me. Will your nuvi still connect to Garmin Express or Garmin MapUpdater? If so, I would try to reinstall the map. The SP2720 is a very old device and you will not be able to install the full NA map. There are two problems. The first is that there is insufficient internal storage to hold the map. The second is that the 2720 cannot read a file larger than 2 GB and the full NA map exceeds this size. There are ways to work around this problem, and you will need to use one of these methods on your 2720
Edit: Just took a look at the SP2720 manual and now realize that in addition to the limitations stated above, it also doesn't have a SD card slot. That limits your options. So you must be installing a partial map? Are you still able to get the SP connected to the computer in Mass Storage mode? If so, you could try using MapInstall to replace the updated map with a smaller region.
The corrupted map was also my initial thought, but since member auggie has been a member here for almost 9 years I would think he updated his 2720 enough times and knows he has space limits that's why I suggested the battery. Had the map installation failed I would hope he got some kind of message stating so.
But as you suggested the map may be corrupt or he has so little free space it won't boot.
But since it is in a boot loop, I doubt if it is a battery problem. I think a weak battery would just cause it to shut down and not go into a continuous reboot loop. So I am leaning toward a corrupted file resulting from the map update. And with all the constraints on this old unit, what worked on the last map update might not work this time.
That said, I have absolutely no experience with the Street Pilot series, so will defer to those of you who know this model.
Should have read the post more carefully, the fact that it's in a reboot loop should rule out the battery. I've experienced several times when I really had a weak battery it tried to boot, then the screen went blank.
I too am unfamiliar with Street Pilots, I don't know the file structure or size of internal memory. Hopefully someone with a 2720 can offer some assistance.
Doing a search on the 2720 I found a link that discusses the 2720 map updates. (October 11, 2007)
Here is a quote from one of the posts that confuses me. I never heard of a supplemental area of internal memory.
"Jerry, that is exactly what I did. I loaded the new mapset on my PC then downloaded it to the 2720 via MapSource to the 1GB "supplemental" area. It is not showing up on the 2720 as a selectable mapset. LER is saying there is some update app on the DVD that updates the mapset on the 2720 directly. I am going to try that later today. "
