3597 Still Gives Error Message About Power Cord

After several firmware updates, my 3597 still gives me error messages stating that I have a power cord that will not charge the Garmin. I have a GTM-60 cord. I use the Traffic feature everyday on the way home. "Log Jams" are a common occurrence on I-64.

Granted, the message is not a daily occurrence, but it's a pain in the butt because it's usually after I start rolling in city traffic. The cure is to take it off the mount, let it power down and then re-mount it. By then, I have to really pay attention to the road. If it powers up and the message appears - it won't show Traffic conditions.

Fortunately, I can just hit "Where To" and then hit "Go Home". But, if I want to go to Sam's Club on the way home, that takes a few more commands.

I think Garmin needs to tweak the code just a little bit more.

Does anybody else still get the message?

Just a thought

I haven't had my 3597 that long but so far it's never given me that error message.

I would first try a hard reset & if the problem reoccurs I would think that it has something to do with your power cord.

Good luck metricman & looking forward to your findings smile

Never

Never seen this message when using the 3597's supplied GTM-60 cable but have seen it many times using an older Nuvi wall adapter in the house.

If it is only happening off and on and not always I would suggest that it's a problem with the USB connection on the mount, the AC adapter in your vehicle, or in the traffic cable itself.

Your memory is almost as bad as mine, and I'm 70!!!!!!!

On 9-18-14 you posted:

Crap, I updated my 3597 and all seemed to go well until I plugged it into the same power adapter I've used on my desk since I got my Nuvi 350 in December 2005. The Nuvi booted up fine but I now get an error message:

"The attached power cable cannot charge your device. Use the cable that was provided with your device."

That's all fine and dandy BUT I never got a power adapter with my 3597, only the USB cable and the power/traffic cable for my vehicle, nothing that plugs into the wall. evil evil

Plugged my 3790 into the same adapter and it works fine, so it's not an adapter failure.

Off I go to see if I can backdate the firmware.

Also, hard reset has been done.

It is not any way near as bad as it was with firmware 4.50, but it is doing something it shouldn't be doing.

My

My memory is fine and I'm 70 as well !!!!!!

The bad adapter message I reported in that post was the one I mentioned in my response above - the wall adapter from an old Nuvi.

Yep, I missed that. Some people had problems with both the cable and the charger and some had one or the other. I never saw a charger problem.

I had problems almost daily. Had to switch back to previous firmware. Waited for 2 more firmware releases before I updated.

Mostly it's been doing it once in a while, but since 5.00 it now does it 3 times a week.

Still want to know if anyone else is having problems.

Nope

I have no problem yet with 5.10 on my 3597 with the GTM-60. I had no issue with 5.00 either.

And

And I've had to issues with the GTM-60 since a first got the 3597 shortly after it was released.

My only issues have been since Firmware 4.50 and they have always been with the wall adapter and not the traffic receiver.

GTM-60.

If I were you, I would call (not email) Garmin support to report this problem. Hopefully they will replace your GTM-60 under warranty. Even if that doesn't fix the problem, it will eliminate the GTM-60 as the cause.

GTM-60 and 3597

I cannot get my 3597 to come on without the error message. I am convinced it is the mini usb connector on the GTM-60. The connection between the GTM-60 and the magnetic holder is very loose. Every once in a while I can wiggle (a technical term) the connector and get it to read traffic.

My first step is to buy a USB extension cable. Maybe if I have a better connection between the GTM-60 and the mount it will work. If that doesn't fix it I will buy another GTM-60 from ebay.

I'm pretty frustrated and not happy with Garmin. I'm a good customer with MANY Garmin products.

Let me know if anyone else finds a solution.

I understand your frustration. How did you contact Garmin customer support? e-mail or phone? Many users have reported frustration with Garmin e-mail support but get much better results with the phone support. If you haven't tried calling Garmin, I would encourage you to do so. Be polite but firm, and if you don't get satisfaction from the support tech, ask to speak with a supervisor.

Incidentally, welcome to the forum. You will find lots of helpful folks here.

@encoreman

Have you installed the latest firmware update available through Garmin Express?

My 3597 has shown me that error message maybe twice since installing the latest firmware months ago. Turning the unit off using the power button and then restarting the unit with the power button will clear the message.

If I remember correctly, the problems started with 4.50 and Garmin made adjustments in later revisions.
