Garmin Express v4.1.4.0

PC Version.

Garmin began rolling out Garmin Express v4.1.4.0 for the PC today. If you would like to upgrade to the latest version, Check for Updates to Express on the Settings page within the Express application. This version includes the following changes:

• Added a new feature that allows users to see the state of their devices including map and software updates, device connection status, and more all from the startup screen.
• Added right-click menus to the startup screen.
• Added a feature that displays the battery status of some activity trackers.
• Fixed an issue that caused Express to crash when using the D2 Bravo device.
• Fixed an issue that caused Express to create a corrupt map file during a map update.
• Various stability improvements.

Mac Version.

If you would like to upgrade to the latest version, Check for Application Updates by clicking “About Garmin Express” from the Garmin Express menu bar, and then click “Check for Updates to Express”. This version includes the following changes:

• Added right-click menus to the startup screen.
• Added a feature that displays the battery status of some activity trackers.
• Various stability improvements.

New features.

Just installed this version (PC) ...

• Added a new feature that allows users to see the state of their devices including map and software updates, device connection status, and more all from the startup screen.

I can see the connection status (green dot when connected), but I don't see any indication of map/software update status. Maybe I will when there are actually updates available. I don't know what the "and more" refers to question

• Added right-click menus to the startup screen.

The "right click menu" has 2 items: Edit Nickname and Remove from Express.

I just updated mine ...went fine, and also updated the firmware for my 2599LMT-HD.

I noticed the changes for the GPS, but the major changes appear to be for Garmin's Vivofit (my wife has one). Garmin Express is also used as the PC interface for their "sportsband/activity tracker" lines, and the changes there are significant.

Win 10 and GE

Garmin Express on my Windows 10 Preview (a fresh install) still won't install. GE thinks I'm using Windows XP and tells me to use GarminMapUpdater.

It's possible that this is a .NET issue like POI Loader. POI Loader won't install on my Windows 10 Preview without also installing an older .NET (in addition to the one that's part of Win 10). Someone who has installed this GE on a Windows 10 Preview installed into an existing Win 7 or 8.1 PC would let GE install since the older .NET would still be there. Maybe someone with Win 10 Preview installed into a Win 7 or 8.1 PC could see if GE will install. If so, then the problem is only for Win 10 Previews installed fresh.

If a .NET issue, it could be resolved by installing the older .NET version(s). Since I'm in no hurry, I'll wait for the official Win 10 which may fix things, or that Garmin will revise a future GE to use the .NET that's part of a fresh Win 10 PC.
