sox.exe (computer doesn't allow me to save it)

Hi. I have a minor problem, i have download sox.exe succesfully but for some reason my computor does not allow me to save it in the folder where PoiLoader is placed. (program86)

I am the adminstrator of my computer but that does not seem to help, i realize this is not much information about my problem but if anyone think this sounds familiar please don´t hesitate to answer.

best regards jocke

A solution?

It sounds like you can download sox to some folder on your computer. Can't you just do that, then Copy the file from its downloaded location and Paste to the folder containing the POI Loader program? Or is this what you're trying to do and your computer won't let you?

On my Win 7 PC with me signed in as Administrator, I do get a warning popup stating that I need permission to Paste a file into a Program File folder but clicking the Continue button in the popup allows the Paste to occur. Do you get a popup warning? What version of Windows are you running?

Regarding sox, make sure you're using the old version 14.0.1, not a newer version. If you're getting sox from the faq here:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25730

unzip the sox.zip to sox exe.

Good luck.

You may need to disable that and reboot the PC.

Yes, i can download it and i can unzip it, i can also move it to other folders that i tried but it cant be placed in the folder where poiloader is placed.

Thanks for showing me the tutorial, i havw read it and follow it again right now but i get a message that say "write error occured" followed by:
Can not open destination files.

Win32 error: 5 Åtkomst nekad.(swedish for acces denied)

Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\POI Loader\sox.exe

Åtkomst nekad. We love it when you talk dirty.

In that case, camerabob's suggestion of disabling or reducing the security level of your User Account Setting (UAC) may work. My file paste works as described earlier and my UAC is set to the default "Level 3" of the four levels of UAC.

God eftermiddag

Maybe

Just a guess on my part.
Maybe DISABLE your anti-virus and firewall and try again.

Possibly the answer is here in Google:

Good thought. I like this one:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/7b...

Even though it's for Win 8.1, it probably applies to earlier Wins, too.

I made a post that

I made a post that apparently didn't make it. He needs to remove sox.ex from his path statement.

Are you signed in as

Are you signed in as (built-in user) Administrator or as user Sjöberg (for example) with administrator privilege? If it's the latter, enable the built-in Administrator account. Sign in as Administrator and retry the copy.

Thanks everybody for all

Thanks everybody for all help.
I tried several ways yesterday, with settings in UAC, signed in as administator and i did some sdjusting with privileges in my settings, reboot a couple of times, tried to shut down firewall (but not sure i did it right), sox still dont want to be placed in program86 folder.

I will do some more testing later this day, it could be that i missed a small but important step yesterday, after an hour with this my head was all meesed up!

Thanks for your help so far and if i have succes with this (and now what i did right) i will let you know.

best regards Jocke

ps, i forgot to say that i use windows 8.1

From the link:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/7b...

it appears that you are experiencing an issue experienced by others and it's something Microsoft considers to be a safety feature of Win 8.1! As one person wrote in the link, The 2 "Program Files" folders have super-duper protections on them. Unfortunately in Windows8 I don't think there is a way to remove it because it is tied in to UAC and you can't turn off UAC any more.

I urge you to work through the link's suggestions and find a solution. Please post what you did to overcome this 8.1 security feature as I expect many folks with a Win 8.1 PC will similarly experience your problem and without a fix, they will be unable to use POI Loader to install custom audio wav files to their custom POIs.

The only remaining odd thing for me is that my 2-week old Win 8.1 PC was able to install POI Loader software and I was able to paste sox.exe into the POI Loader program file, admittedly with a popup warning making sure that I really wanted to paste the file. I didn't change the permissions or other settings deep in my Win8.1 configuration so I would have expected to have the same problem you did. After reading the link above, I'm not sure why I was able paste sox.exe into folder within Window's Program Files. :?

Sox

I run Windows 8.1 on my new laptop and had not installed POI loader v.2.3.7 until now.

Just a few minutes ago I decided to try and install POI loader and then copied sox.exe (v.14.0.1)into the POI loader folder under Program Files (x86) without any problems at all.

I was asked the usual "Do you want to copy this" and I just clicked to continue.

I did it!

A new day and another try, this is really not my cup of tea but i got it to work today.

My "issue" was in the properties for the folder named PoiLoader, i had to mark the box "complete acces" for user in properties for poiloader-folder.
This operation i did yesterday with folders wndows86 and garmin, not sure if it was needed and it was done in my best "desperate-mode" smile

Unfortunately, i do not know how much that i did initially with UAC and security settings on my computer matters, but if anyone encounter the same thing my tip is to start with the setting in properties for the folder Poiloader and then work through garmin-folder, windows86, UAC.

Thanks for all input from all of you, Jocke

That should not be needed because, as you said in the first post, you were logged in as Administrator. The group Administrators (user Administrator is a member of it) already has Full Control access by default. If you were logged in as Administrator, you should already have Full Control permission.
