Wallmart is it true

Recently I had a service dog and couldn't find a hotel so I slept at Wallmart is it true Wallmarts you can sleep in overnight? I was desperate one night and Sheetz let me sleep in their lot. I know that hotels have to allow service dogs but they say no handicapped rooms available. Also I tried to find rest stops but many closed at 5 pm. I would like to know if trucks can sleep beside road for free where can I? It would be great for future trips to know free places to sleep. Thanks

sorry

This forum isn't the best place to ask questions such as you are asking. The users here are more focused on the use of personal navigation devices and problems surrounding them. You will have more success asking in forums set up for those with handicaps and needing service animals than people focused on GPS units. Some of the questions you are asking are tied to the policies of other companies, local laws and such which we (or at least I) wouldn't feel right in answering as it could be the wrong information that would get you in trouble with the store or local authorities.

To answer the title question, the answer is "No". Overnight parking is prohibited in many localities. So Walmart stores in those localities cannot and do not allow overnight parking. And typically overnight parking is extended to recreational vehicles not necessarily to anyone wanting to sleep in their car or truck.

But as noted above, this is not really the correct forum for this. Your best bet is to check with Walmart directly.

And no idea about sleeping on the side of the road. I would imagine that that is not legal is most places.

try the internet

If you search the web for "walmarts you can stay overnight" you'll find information, some of which may be too old to be of use. If you try a Walmart parking lot, check first for signs indicating "no overnight parking". I have stayed in a hostel parking lot, calling ahead for approval. I had 24 hour access to the facilities and paid, I believe, $8. You can find hostel information on the internet.

Sleeping on the side of the road.

That is a no - no in so many ways. It is illegal in all areas I know of. In fact the police will roust you for just standing with your vehicle on the roadside. It is just outright dangerous.

sure

You can... Whether it's legal or permitted is quite another discussion.

Never argue with a pig. It makes you look foolish and it anoys the hell out of the pig!

follow the big rigs

Start with where the big rigs go - truck stops, possibly weigh stations if allowed, etc. And some WalMarts do allow overnight parking - it varies with the location.

Walmart Policy

Can I park my RV at a Walmart store?

While we do not offer electrical service or accommodations typically necessary for RV customers, Walmart values RV travelers and considers them among our best customers. Consequently, we do permit RV parking on our store parking lots as we are able. Permission to park is extended by individual store managers, based on availability of parking space and local laws. Please contact management in each store to ensure accommodations before parking your RV.

Info from their web-site.

If you're in a car and they come out to talk to you, just say "This *is* my RV!" smile
