I have data for waypoints(Campground coordinates for the entire US)in a file, but I only want the listings for a specific state or area.
Can I import this data into Garmin Basecamp and then graphically identify campgrounds in a specified area and save to a folder.
Thanks
Yes
One way to do it is this:
Open the file with Basecamp, identify the POI’s you want to save and change the icon on each one to some other symbol. Then sort the waypoint list by symbol and delete the rest. Next, export the file with a new name to whatever directory you choose. It’s a bit cumbersome if you are dealing with a large number of waypoints but effective.
One of our file manipulation guru’s here may be able to tell you how to import the original file into another program like MS Excel and modify it there. It may be quicker with less effort to do it that way.
Try EPE
TurboCC has added the ability to see all POIs on the map in his latest version of Extra POI Editor.
Perhaps that will work better than using Basecamp.

I would be interested in why you want to go to the trouble of isolating certain POIs from the US file. Are you that tight on space? What would you gain by eliminating POIs?
Drag and Drop
On BaseCamp bring your file to a list. Then make a new list. Then click on the original list that has the POIs you want. Take the select tool and draw a box around the ones you want. On the left side where there are two screens click on one of the highlighted and drag them up to the new list. You can do this as many times as you want till you have the ones you want in the new list. And, you still have your old list if needed.

I would use EPE instead of
I would use EPE instead of Basccamp. Sort by state and delete all the rest.
I never get lost, but I do explore new territory every now and then.
