1. Go to My Garmin Page and sign in http://goo.gl/GPkjU .
2.Connect Gps to computer and click on My Dashboard.
3.It should find your device.
4.Scroll down to Software updates and click on update.
5.Under optional updates click on view available files.
6.Now you can select voices or vehicles.

Thanks for that info...One

Thanks for that info...

One thing 4.0.6.0 did was allow me to register the 2689.... !!!!

last version didn't indicate 2689 was registered, but prompted and did on the 660 !!!

Today it prompted me to register "Not Yet Registered"
and it seems to have stuck, as I closed and re-opened GE and it worked!

Illiterate? Write for free help.

It's always something with Garmin!

I just "upgraded" GE from 3.2.29.0 to 4.0.6.0.

All three of my GPS units (2450LM, 2597LMT, eTrex 20) show up in the new GE.

The two nuvi units are displayed correctly with a colored image and I was able to use the Back Up feature under Tools.

But the eTrex 20 has a "?" displayed on top of a dim image and there is no Back Up feature under Tools. The new GE does say, "You're up to date." I have been able to Back Up under GE 3.2.29.0.

All three units are displayed and working correctly in MyGarmin.com

I have emailed Garmin Support.

Thanks for the info

Changes for 4.0.6.0:
Fixed a crash on Express startup.
Fixed a number of fitness sync related issues.
Fixed a crash affecting Danish users.

As far as I can tell, Garmin has not acknowledged that this is a bug in the 4.0.x versions of Express. Until they do, it probably won't be fixed.

It does not do a full backup of the unit.

GE Internal Updater

Strange. For some reason the internal GE updater on version 4.0.5.0 won't update to version 4.0.6.0 on my PC right now. Download starts then stops at about 75% and throws up "update failed". The version that can be downloaded (for Windows) from http://software.garmin.com/en-US/express-download.html indicates its version 3.2.29.0 and that Garmin Express is already installed.

Nuvi 2598 | Nuvi 350 | eTrex Vista | eTrex 30x

Needed to try installing GE to test something for a freiend.

Installing to an XP unit brings up a warning. "Microsoft has ended support for Windows XP. We will also be ending support for this operating system soon. To keep using Garmin Express, please upgrade your operating system to Windows Vista (or newer)."

It installed, comes up with the warning and looks to be operational.

The version is 3.2.29.0

NOTE: I tried updating through the installed program to see what would happen. It flagged a warning that Garmin Express is not compatible with my OS. It shows a link to "Get Mapupdater" or "exit". It is showing version 4.0.60 on the warning. Going to the link does get you a "save" or a "run" for the program.

So evidently an older version will work on XP for a while, but they are giving us an option to get maps by linking us to Mapupdater. This looks promising for alternate ways to get maps.

Thanks for that link

Thanks for that link... that is EXACTLY what I do. grin

I was mostly posting about the missing backup option and wrong image regarding the eTrex20 using GE 4.0.6.0. I have emailed Garmin support to get that fixed for users that have no clue about the best way to backup a Gramin and this wonderful forum!

Mike

Response from Garmin:

Quote:

Garmin Express will not backup data from the eTrex unit in the latest version. To backup your data you will need to use Garmin BaseCamp

Mike

Thanks for info.

Good to know.
