No vehicles or voices.

True, but at least our friend sussamb from the UK has been able to get a member of Garmin's Express software team to respond to this over on the Garmin software forums. Still no acknowledgement that it is a bug, but at last the recognition that they heard us report the problem.

Look at Apple. Every release since iOS 6 has been getting buggier and buggier. They have finally announced that iOS 8.3 will be a major maintenance release and iOS 9 will be lacking new features and instead focusing on reliability. Considering what their stuff costs and the amount of money they have in the bank they should be able to deliver a quality software product. iOS 8 was a sick joke on a lot of people.

Update Fails

I have attempted to update GE from 4.0.5 to the latest release a half dozen times this morning. The progress bar shows that the download is a little over half completed when the process stops and a "download failed" message appears. rolleyes

4.0.7 can be downloaded from the direct download site at:

When I previously used version 3.2.29.0 when I pushed the extras button a list of voices/ and vehicles would show up. It would show me what was previously installed on my Nuvi 2595 gps and let my add additional voices or vehicles. When I installed version 4.0.7.0 of Garmin Express when I push the button Vehicles and Voices (customize your device with free vehicles and voices) I get a server error (we are having trouble communicating with our servers)This happens every time. I know that I still can update vehicles, but not voices, if I choose the tools menu and choose optional updates other files. Why can't they fixed this bug. Is it happening to most people?

And mixed in with all this they kissed off XP owners

Don't forget that part. byebye XP. I also never understood why they always do this (release new [multiple] versions of Garmin Express) just before a new map release. This happens EVERY TIME. The previous version seemed to work pretty good (finally) but in the last week or so we get three new V4's in rapid succession. Hard to figure. No wait! I forgot: It's Garmin's SOP for testing new software. Silly me. redface

Good point!

They also pile the added "gotcha" on top of themselves when they force everyone to take a firmware upgrade (if you haven't already) AND a GE upgrade -before- they will let you have the new map. History has shown these don't always go smoothly either (firmware update) so it's a triple whammy for them of possible glitches: FW, GE, Map. This never made any sense to me.

GE Proxy Setting Interfears with update

If anyone has a problem upgrading and gets a failed message while trying to download the update within the GE program. Try setting the GE proxy settings from auto to off. Don't have a proxy setup and for some reason the GE 4.0.5.0 program was failing to update after partially downloading the update file. GE successfully updated to 4.0.7.0 once proxy setting in 4.0.5.0 was set to off.

Mine has been working and it was set to "off" in the default. This is found under "Settings (gear)".

When I first looked at it, I had no idea what I should pick, so left it alone.

"Vehicles and Voices" still gets a "Servers busy" error.

An Update will recheck the setting to "Keep Garmin Express running in the background". I always uncheck this and then use Autoruns to disable any entry set by Garmin.

"No joy" on sync failure.

"No joy" on sync failure. Gotta love Garmin programmers.

Is Garmin ever going to fix

Is Garmin ever going to fix the no vehicles no voices server failure? Three updates and no fix. Whats wrong with their programers?

So many Garmin "updates" and

So many Garmin "updates" and way too few bullets...

Thanks for the notification.

Thanks for the notification.

Unknown.

Garmin has heard us complain about the problem and has asked some users that have the problem to submit logs from Garmin Express. They now have these logs and therefore we can speculate that they are investigating the issue. No word yet on whether they have determined if it is a bug or just a problem with some computers/Internet connections. Also no word yet about when (or if) a fix is coming.

Update not for me

Personally I can't see updating this until the next map update comes out. My GPSs are stable now and I like them that way.

I never get lost, but I do explore new territory every now and then.

Vehicles & Voices.

Right at the moment, the Vehicles and Voices function is working correctly for me.

I have seen this before ... it will work for a while, then an hour later it will give the server error again. So this does not necessarily mean that Garmin has fixed a server issue on their end.

GE 4.0.7

When I click on Check for Updates to Express, it does not find the new version.

Any suggestions?

Start a new thread... You

Start a new thread... You own it!
Not only is 4.0.8.0 out, when I connected my 2689 to it, it said there was a new firmware version out!
I went from where-ever I was told I needed a firmware update (Damn me--didn't document past version!) to V7.30

And when it came up, and connected to GE4.0.8.0, it DID CONNECT to voices & vehicles!!!

Run with it!

Here at the factory, we think of Garmin as a company that provides "on the road" GPS devices. However that is far from reality.

The last annual statement had these numbers

...Segment.. Revenue Income
Automotive      49        33
Aviation....       13        15
Fitness......       14        21
Marine.......        8         3
Outdoor.....      16        28

Over on the Garmin Forums, seems to me that the most problems/questions/comments/etc. are about other than automotive devices
