What replaced the 2597LMT?

Hey everyone, I'm looking to replace my 5 year old Garmin with something a little newer and saw some good reviews for the 2597LMT however it's 2 years old so I'm hesitant to buy it. Anyone know for sure what the 2014 or the 2015 updated versions are?

Take a Look at the 3597

Garmin’s 3597 has most of the features of the 2597 plus a few more but at a $100 price increase. Although introduced in 2013, and discontinued in 2014, new 3597’s are still available for around $330.

Manufacturer refurbished units are occasionally available as well at around the same price (+/- $230) as a new 2597. Many of us here at the factory are big fans of the 3597 refurbs, including myself.

PC magazine did a comparison of the 2597 and 3597 in their April, 2013 edition:

Refurbished 3597’s are available now at the GPS Store for $230:

Nothing in Garmin's 2015 line impresses me at this point. IMHO, it will be some time, if ever, before Garmin tops the 3597 in both features and performance.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I appreciate the response. Do you think the 3597 will will be supported for a couple years in terms of the lifetime maps and traffic data?

Garmin hasn't really stopped supporting any unit as far as maps and traffic is concerned. Most of the older units now require an extra memory card to fit the maps onto and the only traffic not supported were from Microsoft and I believe XM. It was because these providers dropped their service, not Garmin.

There are some really old units unable to load full map sets as they have a file size limit of 2GB, but the 3597 has 8GB of memory so maps will not be a problem for several years.

I absolutely LOVE my 3597, along with many others I believe it was the best unit they produced.

3597 An Excellent Choice

As Box Car stated the Lifetime Maps and Traffic will always be available, even on older units that are discontinued. Just make sure that under Garmin's new Lifetime Update policy you update your map at least once in a 2 year period or you will lose the update capability. Don't base your selection of a replacement unit being concerned of that model being discontinued, if things continue as in the past, all Nuvi's at one point will be discontinued by replacing with a newer model.

What won't be updated on discontinued units would be the Firmware which is generally stable at the last release date.

Internal Memory Question

After doing some research I'm considering the 2597 based on prices and reviews on certain features. However you mentioned the internal memory. Do you know how much the 2597 has in comparison? I couldn't find a good answer online. I appreciate the feedback.

Not to worry. The 2597 is an 8GB device, as big as they come right now:
