Has anyone noticed that the more upgrades you do to a device the more the gps gets buggy? Everytime I do an upgrade, I notice that new bugs occur. The units gets slower and map refreshes slow down.
Hard reset?
Have you ever performed a hard reset after a software update? If not, you may benefit from doing it. Be sure to backup your Favorites.

Another Consideration
I also make a habit of frquently clearing my Trip Log, this can improve performance.

I usually do a hard reset after a software update. If the gps screws up I also to a hard reset.

You have said that the unit slows down. You have not described what you mean - besides slowness - by "buggy". Please amplify.
No.

In that case, I would have to answer your original question with a "No, that has not been my experience". I have had Garmin GPS's since 2008 (currently 4, 3 nuvi's and an Oregon), and always apply any new software updates that are released. I usually do a hard reset after an update. With only a few exceptions, the updates have resolved problems and not introduced new ones.

There has to be a good conspiracy line somewhere here.
5. They just don't make'em like they used to.
4. Phantom tower radiation?
3. Your unit was made with some leftover Garmin hiker chips?
2. Is you know who sucking trip log data as you drive by?
1. Anyone for a Discovery Channel episode here?

My serious answer to you question is yes. It happens periodically, and I do suspect it is usually provoked by local multi sourced net radiation hot spots.
It happens more frequently w/my Oregons, occasionally with my 1450, only once w/the eTrex30.
It happens regardless of how charged your batteries are.
Which is why I:
a. believe in Garmin different model equipment redundancy on the trails.
b. am one of those who believes some LM updates are more stable than others. (which is why "if it ain't broke I don't fix/upgrade/update).
c. I'm from the KISS school of Garmin instruments.
d: I manually uninstall all my POIs, update, then reinstall POIs
e: and no, I have never needed to "hard reset" any of my Nuvi. Life is too unstable now a days w/o "hard" resets.
HARD RESET
I've been using Garmin's for the past 10 plus years.
My latest is "Nuvi 2495LMT". Had it for a year. Just updated the maps and anything else they offered me for free. Now says all software is up to date.
MY question:
What the "blank" is a Hard Reset? Never heard the term as long as I've owned a Garmin

I think Garmin uses the term Master Reset. The faq in the earlier discussion shows that it's been around quite some time.
Like you, I've been around a while and also have used several nuvi models. I think I've only done a reset twice, each time after some problem arose with my device after an update. It's not surprising to me that there are folks like you that have never needed to perform a reset.
As offered earlier in the thread, delelting a trip log may be a less powerful way to resolve an issue. Also, freeing up internal storage on a GPS may cure some issues. I see that your 2495 comes with 8GB of storage and that may result in fewer issues that folks who own a device with only 2 or 4 GB.
.
What the "blank" is a Hard Reset?
It basically wipes out all user data including waypoints (or saved places), "recent finds" & the (always recording) trip log along with clearing out all settings on the device and returning everything to it's default values. Maps and system files required by the unit are not touched in the process. It allows the user to operate the device from a "clean slate" or "fresh out of the box" condition.

ooops, I did a soft reset not a hard reset.
I said I did a hard reset after a software update. I goofed. I did a soft reset after a software update so I don't lose all of my settings and contacts.
I never tried clearing the
I never tried clearing the trip log. I will give that a shot.
