First thing to do is go to

First thing to do is go to the Garmin site and download POI editor so that you can add the RLC files as well as any other extra POI's that you may want. Hopefully you model came with Lifetime maps. If not you will need to purchase them. I have found that you don't need every new map update that is released if you don't have the free update service. Maybe once a year is fine. Enjoy your new GPS

Welcome

Welcome, ron....

You will really like the 2460. It is customizable and is a model that allows you to adjust speed limits if you're on a road where your nuvi is showing an incorrect or missing speed limit.

You should make a backup of the files on your unit soon. Check the faqs for this and other important stuff.

You should also check for software updates (use Garmin Express, myGarmin or WebUpdater) and if your device has lifetime maps, perform a map update. I do recommend checking what map you have now—tap Settings/myMaps and see what version of City Navigator you now have. The current map version is 2015.30. If your map is 2013.30 or early, perform this map update ASAP since units that haven't performed a map update in 24 months or longer may lose the ability to update maps.

Here's a faq for installing redlight and speed camera POI files to your unit:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/6507

and the camera files:

http://www.poi-factory.com/poifiles/us/red-light-cameras

Note that these files will be available free to you once you earn your windmill. Prior to that, there's a small fee to pay to obtain the files.

Keep exploring. Your 2460 can do a lot and the faqs and folks here will help if you hit a snag in trying to do something.

You may also want to download the user manual and review it.See http://goo.gl/BfKObE and click on manuals. Other FAQ information there that may answer some questions you already have(option to view all FAQ if needed). Also you will need to know if your unit is in the mass storage mode. http://www.poi-factory.com/node/41416

Welcome

Welcome to the site.

We usually recommend the following.

There is a "Learn" button in the upper right of this page next to "red light cameras" that takes you to a Getting Started page. It is worthwhile visiting this page.

To make navigation easy, most browsers provide the following option. When you want to follow a link - but still keep your current page open - you can hold down the "Ctrl" key as you left-click on a link. That action will open a new "Tab" in your browser up on the "Tab" bar. When you then left-click on that new "Tab", you will follow the link - leaving the "Tab" you are now reading open and available to click on and return here.

So, using the "Learn" link, you might try the "Ctrl" - left-click sequence and then return here. You can return by either "X-ing" out of the "Getting Started" page (using the "X" on the "Tab" itself) or just left-clicking on the "Tab" for the page you are on right now.

Note that the Learn Button will give you access to two valuable reference pages -
the "Index" to all of the FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) and the Glossary of Terms and Links.

Since you are new here, I encourage you to go through a couple of the Tutorials.

The first link makes sure the settings on your computer are such that you can do more advanced POI loading.
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/30393

The next link helps you make a backup of your GPS by attaching it to your computer. (NEVER do anything to your GPS until you have a backup). It also assures that you put your (newer) unit into a state where you can see all of the folders there.

You need to have POI Loader on your computer to load the camera files and other POIs that you find interesting. The links from CraigW will walk you through that aspect.

Let us know how we can help you enjoy your GPS.

Welcome You're In The Right place

You will be pleased with the wealth of information and friendly members of this site.

From all the suggestions offered thus far, this is a lot to take in at one time, but with patience you'll get the hang of it.

Please update your profile and indicate if your unit is a 2460LM or 2460LMT. The LT is lifetime Traffic and the LMT is Lifetime Traffic and Maps.

Kindly read the owners manual and familiarize yourself with the unit as well as making a full backup before you make any changes.

Owning a 2460LMT I like some of the options that newer units don't provide. It has a power cradle that Garmin has discontinued on almost all new units.
I consider this a very desirable feature found only on higher end Nuvi's.

One of my favorite features is that you can customize the Main Menu screen (see pg 10 in manual).
My customized screen shows icons for: STOP - NAVIGATATION - TOOLS - VOLUME - DISPLAY - EXTRAS -FAVORITES.
Here is a pic for my Main Menu page:
http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/ab32/muell9k/Nuvi%202460L...

This is very handy to access features without having to go through several menus.
The 8 GB internal memory will allow you to update maps without the use of an SD card for years to come.

The 2460 is a great GPS, I

The 2460 is a great GPS, I use it every day at work, even if just to have a rolling map on at all times. Voice command is cool, if it's quiet, works great.

I like the 2460 so much I put one in the wife's car too. As far as I know it's been discontinued by Garmin so I'll miss it if it ever dies.

Here's the Garmin page on the unit: (has a lot of info on the unit's features)
