I'm confused about the demise of the 3597!

Amazon has listed it as discontinued for several months, but AFAIK Garmin has never officially listed it as discontinued. I suspect it is no longer being manufactured, but as long as there is new unsold inventory Garmin will probably not show it as discontinued. Also they haven't really announced anything as a replacement. I don't think this practice is unusual for Garmin. They have done the same thing with earlier models.

They also list it as part of their 2014 line AND their 2013 line. I don't think any other 2013 model is part of the 2014 line.

It's a great device, at a great price when purchased as a refurb. They can call it what they want, I can't imagine replacing it any time soon.

I thought mine was great until the 4.50 firmware update screwed-up the power source sensing. It did great for a couple of weeks, then started telling me that the GTM-60 was not sufficient enough to charge the 3597. When that happens - no Traffic.

So I went back to 4.40 and that fixed that, but now if you don't push in the adaptor plug first and then mount the 3597 in the cradle (GPS must be turned off) it will say that the attached cord is not compatible with Traffic.

Hope 4.70 fixes it, and soon. Because I really like the 3597.

I've got a 3597, current firmware, maps and everything else. I've not seen or experienced what your reporting. Not saying it's not happening to you, just I've not seen it........... yet

I've not seen that problem with the traffic receiver but it certainly is an issue using the power adapter from an older Nuvi to charge the 3597. The adapter I use has worked with ALL of my Nuvi's, including the 3597, until I installed firmware 4.50 on it.

The current problem started after I reverted back to 4.40 firmware. I'm assuming something got scrambled, because it did not do that on the original 4.40 firmware.

I could try and go back one more version and then install 4.40 again, but I can live with plug-in first and mount the turned off GPS to get traffic. With the 4.50 firmware it sometimes took many tries to get it to work.

Is this 2009 or something....why spend a penny over $160?
