More Info Please

I'm a big fan of Sandisk SD cards, I never had a problem with them.

When you hook up the Nuvi with the SD card inserted and connected to yor PC, do the maps appear on the drive?

If not, have you tried inserting the SD card directly to your PC if it has a card reader, If your PC doesn't have a card reader try a SD card USB adapter, they are quite cheap to buy.

If the maps on your SD card are not recognized by your Nuvi, but are recognized connecting to the your PC, your Nuvi's SD card reader may be at fault here.

.

There could be a simple solution and one that's commonly missed...

Do you have the maps selected in the nuvi's map settings?

I don't have the exact procedure to get there on your particular model. Maybe someone who does can help out with pointers on where exactly to go on the unit to verify that the maps have been selected for use by the unit.

EDIT: I just looked at the Owner's Manual (US version) here:
http://static.garmincdn.com/pumac/nuvi_1100_1200_1300_1400_O...

You can get to the map selection screen:
Tools > Settings > Map > Map Info (page 41 in the above manual)

There

There is one other thing you might check. I have a Nuvi 1490 which has pretty much the same form factor as the 1300 series. I hate to admit it but for the first few months I owned the 1490 I complained that the there was something wrong with the SD card slot as I couldn't get any of my SD cards to be read by the Nuvi.

I finally figured out that I had been putting the card in the slot upside down. I don't think I ever owned a device where you could put an SD card in backwards or upside down but on that Nuvi you could. I turned the card over, inserted it, and it's worked fine since. redface

You'll get no help from Garmin owners manuals, I've yet to see one that tells you how to properly insert the SD card. Many people have inserted it incorrectly and got it jammed in the slot. Interesting to know on your 1490 it can be inserted either way without jamming.

I believe one model in particular (nuvi 2x5) was changed hardware-wise mid-point in it's production cycle. The older model used a standard (full size) SD Card while the newer updated model used a micoSD Card. I also believe that the card orientation was also flipped with the hardware change. The firmware was also different in some ways (that I can't recall).

I'll bet this model was a nightmare for Garmin support-wise. It was probably confusing for consumers as well.

Follow Up

After re-reading OP travellots post, I had thought he\she had the SD card inserted on the trip to the UK so I ASSUMED the SD card maps were checked off in his Map Info page. Appaerently the card was not in the Nuvi and only discovered the map problem when he\she returned home.

I now see he\she resides in Australia, so if the Nuvi 1300 was purchased there should be the Australian map loaded on the 1300. He\she makes no mention of a UK map where he traveled to, is residing on either the Nuvi itself or the SD card. Just wondering what kind of maps he\she has.

Apparently new member travellots the (OP) has no interest in returning to the forum with a reply.
I see no point in continuing the discussion until we receive a reply with more information.
