Garmin Express 3.2.21.0

Garmin began rolling out Garmin Express v3.2.21.0 for the PC and Mac today. If you would like to upgrade to the latest version, Check for Application Updates on the Settings page within the Express application. This version includes the following changes:

PC version:
• Fixed an issue where connecting a device when the ANT+ Help screen was visible would cause the application to crash.
• Fixed an issue that prevented users from adding a vivosmart to Express if the Language setting was blank on initial setup.
• Fixed an issue that caused Express to lose connection to some Forerunner 310xt devices when Express was restarted.

Mac version:
• Fixed an issue where the application would crash when a user attempted to add more than the maximum number of supported wireless networks.

Garmin Express 3.2.21.0 does not find nuvi - Solved!

This must impact quite a few nuvi owners.

Problem as put into Garmin Support

nuvi 1300 Unit ID: xxx nuvi 1300 S4_R_V1 KP1 V4 LC2 Software Version 6.2 No problem connecting nuvi with USB showing (lower right task bar) a pop up menu with:

  • Open Devices and Printers
  • USB Mass Storage device (grayed out)
  • - Eject Garmin nuvi (F).

On PC (Win 7 64b) USB ding on plug-in. "My computer" can see into Nuvi files no problem. However all Garmin software on the PC does not detect the nuvi.

  • Communicator Plugin 4.2.0.0 "looking for devices" just spins.
  • POI Loader 2.3.7 "there was a problem communicating with the Garmin device GARMIN (F:\). Please update the software in the device. Communication with the device my continue with reduced functionality. Contact Garmin customer support for assistance.
  • WebUpdater 2.5.6 doesn't find nuvi.
  • Communicator Plugin x64 4.2.0 does not find nuvi.
  • USB Drivers 2.3.1.0 doesn't help.
  • Garmin Express 3.2.21.0 does not find nuvi.

And the simple solution from Garmin Support!!! Hurray! grin

Please try the following since the GPS is not communicating with our software it appears there may be a bad file on the GPS that needs to be removed.

  • Please click on computer or my computer to access the Garmin drive.
  • Open the Garmin drive.
  • Next open a folder called Garmin.
  • In here you will see a Garmin device (XML file), delete this file.
  • Return to the previous screen and locate voice folder.
  • Open the voice folder. Delete any 3 language files that are NOT an English files (You may see an .SUM and .VPM these are a set per name). If you only see English do not delete any files and contact us.
  • After at least 3 files have been deleted, remove your Garmin restart. Remove from computer and allow for Garmin to turn on you may to manually power on.
  • Plug Garmin into computer once it has turned on.
  • Returned to Garmin Express your device should now be recognized

Note, to go to the new version of USA maps you need more memory in your Nuvi 1300. A snap to add. It will take a 4 to 8 GB micro SD card. ($5-$10) Suggest you order on-line (Amazon, ebay, etc.) as retail stores are stocked out of all 4 GB cards and most 8 GB cards, and have moved to 16, 32, 64 GB versions.

@rjlabs

Fascinating!

Did you contact Garmin by phone or by e-mail?

If by e-mail, would you please cut and paste the e-mail into a reply?

This appears to be that what

This appears to be that what he posted is what he typed directly into the Garmin Support Request form on the support page.

If there is no more memory available (0 bytes free), nothing will recognize the Nuvi. You must free up SOME space to have allow enough room for a file to generate on the GPS when you plug it in to allow communication. This happened to me a couple of weeks ago. Time to buy a micro SD card?

Garmin Express 3.2.21.0

Not a big fan of GE but I guess I will try the new version.

Thanks

for the news on the update

Thanks ... I think

Thanks.

I think.

Always a bit nervous when the phrase "Garmin Express" is brought up ... with the phrase "Update," particularly if the version I have appears to be a "working" version.

But, then again, usually users are forced to "update" Garmin Express as part of any map update ... so might as well bite the bullet, cast my fate to the winds, bend over, and update .... and pray nothing will be broken.
