Transitioning from Nuvi 2595 to 2598- can I transfer settings?

I have an ongoing problem with my Nuvi 2595 either freezing or shutting down while in mid-trip so I plan to exchange it for a 2598. I'm assuming the 2598 is a newer version of the 2595 but could be wrong. Is there a way to download one's settings (POIs, etc.) from an existing device and then upload them to a new one?

Thanks,

Howie

I think

I think you may have posted your question to the wrong forum as it's in the Magellan Talk section and probably should be in the Garmin Talk section.

Anyway, to answer your question, yes, it's very easy to transfer all of your Favorites/Saved places as well as your POIs from one Nuvi to another.

To transfer saved places (there are other ways but I find this one the easiest) copy the current.gpx file from your 2595 to your computer. Rename the file to temp.gpx. Copy temp.gpx file from the your computer to your new 2598. When you restart the 2598 all your favorites will be showing and you can/should delete the temp.gpx file from the device.

To transfer your POIs, copy the .gpi file(s) from the POI folder on your 2595 to your computer. Then copy the files from your computer to the POI folder on the 2598. If the POI file doesn't exist on the new device, just create it prior to the transfer.

I did erroneously post to

I did erroneously post to the wrong forum and hope one of the mods would move it to the correct one- especially as you have provided some great insight around how to accomplish this. Thanks for the guidance.

This should read:

"If the POI folder doesn't exist on the new device, just create it prior to the transfer."

Glad I could help.
