Hello and thank you Miss POI !

Just ordered my Garmin streetpilot i3 and did a search and found your site! All I can say is wow I am impressed. It is people like you that make the internet great. Can't wait to test out my new GPS. I spent many hours researching and heard many good things about the i3 so hopefully it is all I heard about.

Thanx,
Ray

StreetPilot i2 / i3

I have a Garmin i2, and I'm pretty happy with it as a basic nav system. It's simple to use and has very good maps. A larger display and touch screen would be nice, but for the price I won't complain.

Drop in again after your i3 arrives and let us know how you like it.

Good Luck!

JM

You are welcome.

You are welcome. I am really looking forward to hearing about your adventures with your new garmin product, I love mine. These discussion boards are a great new addition, finally people that understand me:)

i3, i2, i5, etc.

Hello JM I was not able to actually see a real i3 because no stores here carry it and I have no idea why due to their popularity. I need reading glasses and I hope I can see the i3 ok. The i2 and i5 are the same as the i3 so what u have is every bit as good as mine. The only reason I went with the i3 was the i2 was only about $10.00 cheaper so for the extra 10 I got color. We can also just install a 1 gig micro SD card and turn ours into the i5 if we decided to do so. Are there any drawbacks I should be aware of?

Thanx,
Ray

well to be honest I get lost pretty easy

Hello Miss,
In my line of work I travel quite a bit (so far about a 80 mile radius from my home) to unfamiliar territory and more often than not I hit detours. Well as it turns out many just dump you in the middle of nowhere. Getting lost can be pretty stressful so I am hoping this will make a difference. I think I understand you very well cuz I have always been a technology buff and I currently own a Magellan Explorist 200 but it is not too useful for driving but it is good for foot travel such as hiking. If you really think of the technology behind GPS it is quite amazing! BTW do you have a real 1st name to disclose (if you'd rather not reveal it I understand) because I feel goofy calling you Miss Poi lol. Are you related to Miss Koi (she is a fishy person lemme tell you!) Pleased to meet you!

i2 / i3

For their price, these entry level models work quite well. They have the same high quality maps and POI data as Garmin's other models.

I already mentioned the biggest trade-offs (small display and lack of touch screen). Here are some other features you'll usually only find in more expensive models:

  • spoken street names (e.g., "turn left on Ash Street" instead of just "turn left in 500 feet")
  • traffic reports for some larger cities
  • bluetooth phone connection, MP3, JPEG, the kitchen sink, and whatever else they're throwing in these days ...

Models with these higher-end features usually sell for a few hundred more than i2 / i3.

Gilligan knows that .....

My name is Maryann, which is kind of fishy in itself given the whole Gilligans island connection. All through high school people asked me about the professor and Gilligan.

MaryAnn (aka Miss Poi)

Thanks

I was looking for POI files online for my streetpilot c550 and thanks to you I have all I need. Just cant wait to see how it works.

Thanks Ms. POI

Nice website and much appreciated.

I will send you a lat/long of a red light camera near my house when I get better with my GPS.

You're welcome

Thanks, all we need are the cross streets, we have software that we use to get the lat/long. No need to go to extra trouble when miss poi is around, have I mentioned how much I love my work? It is like having a large puzzle to put together everyday. I eat this stuff up. wink

Maryann

Hi Miss Poi! Is this really

Hi Miss Poi!

Is this really your work? Would you like an assistant? I'd rather do this stuff than what I do do.

Toad

Thanks

I could always use an extra brain. At some point we are going to start posting POI's for new stores that have recently opened that would not be included in the software that comes with your gps system.

This will be a huge undertaking and if any of you out there are looking for a new hobby and would like to help collect the data just let me know.
We can start a POI collecting club.
