Garmin 2797 Directions

I had some problems with the 2797 telling me to turn the wrong direction to my driveway and at least one other location out of town. Somebody in a forum here had suggested turning off some avoidances. Turned all avoidances off now it tells me i'm home when i am in front of my house. Doesn't tell me to turn either way. Not sure about the other location

The nuvi 2797 actually has better address locations than older models and this should better identify actual address locations on the street and side of the street:

The faq does point out that about 80% of North American addresses are now door-to-door. It's possible that your addresses are from the remaining 20% yet to be door-to-doored in future map updates.

Interesting, I can't imagine how an Avoidance setting could affect the final side-of-street turn to reach an address.

Regarding an incorrect turn for your driveway and home, I assume you've set your Home to be an address. I suggest deleting this Home Favorite and instead, with a good satellite fix, pull about 10-15 into your driveway, stop, the save that lat/long position and name it Home. This should have you being told to turn the correct way...not that you need instructions on which way to turn to arrive at Home, but it will avoid the verbal annoyance. smile

Home ?

I DO NOT use my exact home location for security purposes. Mine is set somewhere about 300 feet away.
If you live on the 20th floor of an apartment building that would not apply !

If you can't find your home from 300 feet away you should not be out on the road.

And your glove compartment and sun visor?

That makes sense until you think that your required state registration paper is likely in your glove compartment telling folks your address--I assume this may be true in your province as well. Then too, for anyone breaking into your car for your address, the biggest danger would be a garage door opener clipped to your sun visor. If stolen, a thief has direct access to your garage. Closing the door after entry, the burglar can work unobserved to break into your home.

I confess that my nuvi's Home location is my driveway which is not a major security threat to my way of thinking.

Let's Not Forget

The insurance card. All states require proof of insurance and this contains your address.
I never leave my registration card in the vehicle, it's always in my wallet next to my license. But I am guilty of leving the insurance card in the glove compartment.

I do have my home address as home in my units, however, I ALWAYS take them with me when leaving the vehicle.

An excellent point about the garage door opener.
I suppose the best way to protect yourself is to take the GPS, garage door opener, and documents with you when leaving your vehicle while not at home.
